Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee the complete lifecycle of electrical projects, from initial client consultation and bid preparation to final installation, inspection, and commissioning.
  • Interpret and execute work based on complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications for a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
  • Develop and submit comprehensive, competitive project bids and proposals, performing accurate cost estimations for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenses, and implement cost-control measures to ensure project profitability and financial health.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise a team of journey-level electricians, apprentices, and laborers, assigning daily tasks and ensuring high-quality workmanship.
  • Enforce and maintain strict adherence to all local, state, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, as well as OSHA and site-specific safety regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, architects, and engineers, providing regular project updates and resolving any issues that arise.
  • Procure and manage the inventory of necessary tools, equipment, and materials, negotiating with suppliers and vendors to secure competitive pricing.
  • Conduct thorough on-site inspections to monitor progress, ensure quality control, and verify compliance with safety protocols and project specifications.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues in electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and low-voltage wiring.
  • Prepare and manage all project documentation, including contracts, change orders, requests for information (RFIs), daily logs, and closeout packages.
  • Secure all necessary permits and licenses for electrical work and coordinate with local inspectors to schedule and pass all required inspections.
  • Implement and manage job site safety programs, including conducting regular safety meetings (toolbox talks) to foster a zero-incident work environment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair a diverse array of electrical systems and components, including switchgear, panelboards, conduits, and motor control centers.
  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers to generate repeat business and new project opportunities.
  • Manage project timelines and critical path activities, coordinating with other trades on the job site to avoid delays and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Provide expert guidance on the design and layout of electrical systems, offering value engineering solutions to clients without compromising safety or quality.
  • Oversee the installation and integration of specialized systems, such as fire alarms, security, building automation, and renewable energy solutions (e.g., solar panels, EV chargers).
  • Respond to emergency service calls and manage after-hours work as needed to support client needs and project demands.
  • Stay current with the latest industry trends, technological advancements, code changes, and best practices in the electrical contracting field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 7-10+ years of progressive experience in the electrical trade, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory, foreman, or project management role.
