Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform installation, start-up and commissioning of field instrumentation, control panels, junction boxes, cable trays and conduit systems, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and project specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC, DCS and HMI systems, including diagnosing I/O faults, ladder logic issues, communication errors and intermittent control problems to restore process operation quickly and safely.

  • Perform loop checks, point-to-point verification and wiring continuity tests during installation and pre-commissioning to validate correct signal routing and instrument response.
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot fieldbus and asset management communications (HART, Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus) and networked device issues to maintain robust instrumentation communications.
  • Repair and replace control system components such as relays, power supplies, I/O modules, terminal blocks, and signal conditioners following OEM procedures and site standards.
  • Read, interpret and update electrical and instrumentation drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams and instrument datasheets to support maintenance and modification work.
  • Program, modify and back up PLC and HMI logic and operator screens, apply controlled change procedures, and maintain revision documentation in alignment with configuration management practices.
  • Perform motor control and VFD troubleshooting including parameter checks, ramp profiling, and resolving ground fault or drive fault conditions that affect pump and compressor operation.
  • Execute safety-critical activities including lockout‑tagout (LOTO), confined space entry support, and verifying safety instrumented system (SIS) devices, ensuring adherence to company safety policies.
  • Conduct FAT/SAT (Factory Acceptance Testing / Site Acceptance Testing) support, coordinate with vendors, and validate instrumentation performance against contract requirements.
  • Replace and set up control valves, actuators and positioners; perform valve stroking, hysteresis testing and seat leakage verification to ensure proper process response.
  • Use handheld calibrators, multimeters, oscilloscopes and loop testers to diagnose signal integrity, electrical noise, grounding issues and transient events affecting instrumentation.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and recommend stocking levels for critical instruments, I/O modules and consumables to reduce downtime risk.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, calibration certificates and technical documentation in CMMS and instrumentation asset databases.
  • Participate in root cause analyses for recurring control and instrument failures and implement corrective actions to improve asset reliability.
  • Support electrical and instrumentation modifications for capital projects, upgrades and turnaround activities including estimating labor, scoping work and coordinating with contractors.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices on instrument installation best practices, troubleshooting techniques and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with process, operations and engineering teams to recommend instrument upgrades, retrofit opportunities and automation enhancements that deliver operational improvements.
  • Perform hazardous area checks and ensure correct installation and documentation of intrinsically safe (IS) or explosion-proof devices in classified areas.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
