You will apply your technical expertise to ensure all installations and repairs meet rigorous safety standards, code requirements, and project specifications. This role demands a proactive problem-solver who can work independently and collaboratively to power our clients' infrastructure safely and efficiently. You will be the on-site expert for all things electrical, from initial rough-in to final trim and system commissioning.

Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Expertly install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, ensuring that all work is performed in strict accordance with relevant National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations.
  • Interpret and execute complex work from blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications to ensure the accurate installation of diverse electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using advanced testing devices and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on electrical systems and components to ensure continuous, safe operation, minimizing downtime and identifying potential issues before they become critical failures.
  • Install and service a wide range of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and control systems in both commercial and industrial environments.
  • Skillfully measure, cut, bend, thread, and install various types of electrical conduit (EMT, Rigid, PVC) and other raceways, ensuring a professional and compliant installation.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, motors, and other electrical components with a high degree of precision and attention to detail.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices like multimeters, ohmmeters, and meggers to ensure system integrity and safety.
  • Install, commission, and troubleshoot motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Perform safe and correct terminations and splicing of low, medium, and high voltage cables.
  • Respond to emergency service calls to diagnose and resolve urgent electrical issues in a timely and efficient manner, often outside of normal business hours.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets.
  • Advise management on whether the continued operation of equipment could be hazardous and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
  • Work with various power systems, including single-phase and three-phase systems, and demonstrate a deep understanding of AC/DC circuit theory.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to apprentice electricians, fostering their skill development and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily work logs, timecards, and material usage reports for project tracking, inventory management, and billing purposes.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, general contractors, and other trade professionals to ensure project milestones are met and to resolve any on-site coordination issues.
  • Actively participate in daily safety briefings (toolbox talks) and contribute to the ongoing improvement of job site safety culture and procedures.
  • Manage job site logistics, including ordering necessary parts and supplies and maintaining an organized inventory of tools and materials.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • NEC Mastery: Deep knowledge and practical application of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes.
  • Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation: Ability to read, understand, and execute work from technical drawings and schematics.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Proficient in diagnosing and resolving complex issues in electrical circuits, motors, and control systems.
  • Conduit Bending & Installation: High level of skill in bending and installing various types of electrical conduit.
  • Motor Controls & VFDs: Experience installing and troubleshooting motor controls, starters, and variable frequency drives.
  • Electrical Testing Equipment: Competent use of multimeters, clamp-on ammeters, meggers, and circuit tracers.
  • Power Distribution Systems: In-depth understanding of switchgear, panelboards, transformers, and both single-phase and three-phase systems.
  • Low Voltage Systems: Familiarity with fire alarm, security, and data/communication system installation.
  • Safe Work Practices: Expertise in lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, arc flash safety (NFPA 70E), and general construction site safety.
  • Splicing & Terminations: Proficiency in making secure and reliable connections for a range of voltage levels.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of a registered 4 to 5-year Electrician Apprenticeship program.
  • Valid State-issued Journeyman Electrician License/Certification.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology or a related technical field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 4-6 years of documented post-apprenticeship experience in commercial and/or industrial electrical work.

Preferred: Experience as a lead electrician on projects; experience in specialized environments such as healthcare, data centers, or manufacturing facilities.
