Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Provide rapid, evidence-based assessment and stabilization of adult and pediatric patients presenting with emergency conditions, including shock, respiratory distress, chest pain, sepsis, altered mental status, and trauma, ensuring timely initiation of life-saving interventions and escalation to attending physicians when indicated.
Perform focused histories and comprehensive physical examinations tailored to acute presentations; synthesize findings to generate accurate differential diagnoses and prioritized problem lists in a high-volume ED setting.

Manage airway emergencies including advanced airway placement support, rapid sequence intubation participation and post-intubation care, and perform bag-valve-mask ventilation, procedural sedation, and respiratory management under established protocols.

Participate in incoming trauma activations as part of the trauma team, including rapid assessment, hemorrhage control, placement of emergency interventions (e.g., pelvic binder), and communication with trauma surgeons and ancillary services.
Recognize and respond to behavioral and psychiatric emergencies by performing safety assessments, initiating appropriate restraints or sedation when necessary, and coordinating behavioral health evaluations and placements.
Document clinical encounters thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record (EHR), ensuring compliance with coding, billing, and medico-legal standards; complete clinical notes, procedure notes, and discharge instructions in a timely manner.
Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, risks, benefits, and prognoses; manage difficult conversations including end-of-life considerations in the ED context.
Collaborate closely with attending physicians, nursing staff, case managers, social workers, and consulting specialties to coordinate care plans, expedite admissions or transfers, and optimize resource utilization.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
