Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, backtest, and deploy proprietary trading strategies across physical and financial energy markets (e.g., Power, Natural Gas, LNG, Crude Oil, Renewables) to generate P&L.
- Actively manage a trading portfolio, taking and managing positions within established risk parameters and capital allocations.
- Execute trades with precision across various exchanges (e.g., ICE, NYMEX) and OTC platforms, ensuring best execution and minimal slippage.
- Conduct continuous, in-depth analysis of market fundamentals, including supply/demand balances, weather patterns, generation/transmission data, and geopolitical events.
- Monitor real-time market fluctuations and news flow to make rapid, informed trading decisions under pressure.
- Manage and report on the daily P&L and risk exposure of the trading book, providing clear explanations for performance drivers to management.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with brokers, exchange personnel, and key counterparties to gather market intelligence and facilitate trade execution.
- Price, trade, and manage a portfolio of complex financial derivatives, including swaps, options, and futures, to hedge risk and express market views.
- Optimize the value of physical assets, such as power plants, gas storage facilities, or transportation capacity, through strategic bidding and dispatch decisions.
- Negotiate and structure both short-term and long-term transactions, demonstrating a keen understanding of contract terms and counterparty risk.
