Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assemble, configure, and validate complex electromechanical prototypes and systems according to engineering specifications and schematics.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a wide array of standard and specialized test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
  • Execute detailed test plans and validation procedures to rigorously assess product performance, reliability, and compliance with design requirements and industry standards.
  • Meticulously document test setups, procedures, observations, and failures with a high degree of accuracy, generating comprehensive test reports for engineering review.
  • Perform systematic root cause analysis on failed components, sub-assemblies, and systems, utilizing diagnostic tools and critical thinking to isolate issues at the board and system level.
  • Collaborate closely with design and development engineers to provide real-time, actionable feedback on product performance, usability, manufacturability, and potential design improvements.
  • Construct, modify, debug, and maintain custom test fixtures, harnesses, and cables required for specific product testing and validation activities.
  • Perform high-precision soldering, rework, and modification of printed circuit board assemblies (PCAs), including both fine-pitch surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components.
  • Manage and maintain the engineering lab environment, ensuring all equipment is calibrated, organized, and in safe working order, and that a proper inventory of supplies is kept.
  • Install, configure, and debug firmware and software on test units as a core part of the system validation process.
  • Conduct and monitor environmental and mechanical stress tests, including thermal cycling, vibration, shock, and humidity testing, to assess product robustness and long-term reliability.
  • Read and interpret complex engineering documentation, including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Assist in the development, documentation, and refinement of new test procedures and methodologies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and test coverage.
  • Collect, organize, and perform initial analysis of large datasets from testing, identifying trends, anomalies, and any out-of-spec conditions for escalation.
  • Manage the inventory of lab supplies, electronic components, and tools, coordinating with procurement for reordering to prevent project delays.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the transition of new products from the R&D phase to full-scale manufacturing by providing training and documentation to production technicians.
  • Actively participate in design review meetings, offering practical insights and feedback from a testing, assembly, and serviceability perspective.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and document findings on returned customer units (RMAs) to identify failure modes occurring in the field and inform future design iterations.
  • Calibrate and perform routine preventative maintenance on electronic test equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and extend equipment life.
  • Develop and debug basic scripts (e.g., in Python or LabVIEW) to automate repetitive test sequences and data collection tasks, improving lab efficiency.
  • Ensure all testing activities are conducted in strict compliance with company safety protocols and quality management system (QMS) standards.
  • Provide ad-hoc technical support and troubleshooting assistance to other departments, such as quality assurance and manufacturing engineering, as required.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Electronic Test Equipment: High proficiency in using standard electronic test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers).
  • Soldering and Rework: Strong hands-on skills in fine-pitch soldering (SMT/BGA), de-soldering, and general electronics rework on delicate PCBAs.
  • Schematic Interpretation: The ability to read, understand, and interpret complex electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical diagrams.
  • Data Acquisition (DAQ): Experience with setting up data acquisition systems (e.g., National Instruments, Keysight) and integrating various sensors for data collection.
