Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate and maintain various types of engraving equipment, including CO2 and fiber laser systems, as well as rotary engravers.
  • Interpret complex work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings to determine job specifications and requirements.
  • Set up engraving machines by selecting appropriate lenses, power settings, speeds, and focal points based on material type and desired outcome.
  • Prepare and load materials onto the machine, ensuring proper alignment and securing for precise and accurate engraving.
  • Utilize graphic design software such as CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, and CAD/CAM programs to review, format, and manipulate artwork for production.
  • Conduct first-article inspections and continuous quality control checks throughout the production run to ensure output meets strict quality standards and client specifications.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of engraving machines to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common machine malfunctions and software issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
  • Manage and maintain an inventory of raw materials and engraving supplies, reporting any shortages to the supply chain manager.
  • Package finished products carefully, ensuring they are protected during transit and labeled correctly for shipping or further processing.
  • Accurately document production data, including run times, material usage, and quality control results, in the company’s ERP or tracking system.
  • Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to provide feedback on the feasibility of new designs and suggest optimizations for the engraving process.
  • Adjust machine parameters and engraving paths to optimize for both speed and quality, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Handle a diverse workflow, from high-volume production runs of standardized parts to one-off, intricate custom projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Select the appropriate engraving method (e.g., raster vs. vector, deep engraving vs. surface marking) to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional result.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of engraved elements using precision measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and digital gauges.
  • Develop and save standardized machine programs and settings for repeat jobs to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with team leads and production planners regarding job status, potential delays, and resource needs.
  • Train new technicians or junior staff on machine operation, safety procedures, and quality standards as required.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with special projects, prototype development, and sample creation for sales and marketing purposes.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying and suggesting ways to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve output quality.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to clarify custom order details, resolve ambiguities, and ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Participate in daily production meetings and planning sessions to help coordinate workflow and prioritize jobs effectively.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in graphic design and vector software such as CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, or AutoCAD.
  • Hands-on experience operating CO2 and/or Fiber laser engraving and cutting systems.
  • Experience with mechanical or rotary engraving machines and associated software.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of the properties of various materials (e.g., anodized aluminum, stainless steel, acrylic, wood, leather).
  • Mechanical aptitude for basic machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments, including digital calipers and micrometers.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
  • Understanding of CNC machine operation and G-code is a plus.

Educational Background

Experience Requirements
