Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Pitch, research, and write multiple engaging, clean, and well-sourced articles daily, covering breaking news, celebrity updates, film/TV releases, and music trends.
  • Conduct insightful and compelling interviews with a wide range of industry talent, including actors, directors, musicians, and creators, both in-person (junkets, red carpets) and remotely.
  • Generate original, long-form feature stories, listicles, and analytical think pieces that offer unique perspectives on the current entertainment landscape.
  • Produce timely and authoritative reviews of new movies, television shows, seasons, and music albums, articulating a clear and well-supported critical viewpoint.
  • Cover live events, such as award shows, press conferences, and film festivals, providing real-time updates and follow-up analysis for our digital and social platforms.
  • Monitor social media, competitor sites, and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Trends, CrowdTangle) to identify emerging stories and viral conversations before they peak.
  • Fact-check all reporting meticulously to ensure the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity across all published content.
  • Adhere to a demanding editorial calendar, consistently meeting tight deadlines without compromising the quality of your work.
  • Craft compelling, SEO-optimized headlines and copy to maximize article visibility and organic search traffic.
  • Source or create multimedia elements, including photos and videos, to enhance articles and increase user engagement.
  • Actively participate in daily and weekly editorial meetings, contributing fresh, innovative story ideas and angles that align with our brand voice.
  • Write and publish content directly within our Content Management System (CMS), ensuring proper formatting, tagging, and metadata implementation.

Secondary Functions

  • Cultivate and maintain a robust network of industry contacts, including publicists, studio representatives, managers, and other key sources, to secure exclusives and scoops.
  • Collaborate closely with the video, social media, and art departments to develop and execute cohesive multimedia content strategies around major cultural events and releases.
  • Analyze content performance using analytics tools to understand audience behavior, refine content strategy, and optimize for key performance indicators (KPIs) like page views, engagement, and time on site.
  • Act as a brand ambassador by representing the publication at industry events, panels, and screenings with professionalism and expertise.
  • Mentor junior writers and interns, providing constructive feedback on their pitches, writing, and reporting skills.
  • Stay abreast of evolving digital media trends, new platform features, and SEO best practices to ensure our content strategy remains innovative and effective.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Expert-Level Writing & Editing: Mastery of grammar, syntax, and storytelling, with a strong command of AP Style.
