  • Set up and operate a wide range of metal fabrication equipment, such as hydraulic press brakes, shears, plate rollers, band saws, and plasma cutters, with a high degree of precision.
  • Accurately measure, cut, bend, and form metal components to specified dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and protractors.
  • Assemble complex mechanical and structural components, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and functionality according to design specifications.
  • Perform detailed layout work, marking cutting, and assembly lines on materials to guide fabrication operations.
  • Grind, sand, and polish fabricated assemblies to remove imperfections and achieve specified surface finishes and aesthetic quality.
  • Conduct thorough quality control inspections on all welds and finished products to ensure they meet stringent company, industry, and customer standards.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform repairs on existing machinery and equipment, identifying root causes of mechanical failures and implementing effective solutions.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, including overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts, to maneuver large and heavy workpieces and assemblies.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering and design teams to provide constructive feedback on manufacturability, suggesting design modifications to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain a meticulously safe, clean, and organized work area by strictly adhering to all company safety protocols, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, and drill presses, to create custom parts and components as needed.
  • Plan and sequence fabrication and assembly operations to optimize workflow, manage project timelines, and meet demanding production schedules.
  • Fit and tack-weld components into position before final welding to ensure accurate alignment and prevent distortion.
  • Document daily work progress, material usage, and project hours accurately for project tracking, inventory management, and reporting purposes.
  • Perform pressure testing, leak testing, and other functional tests on completed vessels and assemblies to verify their structural integrity and performance.
  • Manage inventory of raw materials and consumables for assigned projects, communicating needs to supervisors to prevent work stoppages.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for fabrication defects, equipment failures, or safety incidents to contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior fabricators and apprentices, sharing knowledge of best practices, safety standards, and equipment operation.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the maintenance department with complex equipment overhauls, installations, and plant-wide repairs during periods of high demand.
  • Participate actively in continuous improvement programs, such as Kaizen events and 5S initiatives, to enhance shop floor efficiency and safety.
  • Maintain detailed logs and records of equipment maintenance, repair activities, and welding procedure qualifications.
  • Support the R&D and engineering teams by fabricating and testing prototypes for new product designs and equipment modifications.
