Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute a diverse range of complex test plans, procedures, and cases (both manual and automated) to comprehensively evaluate equipment functionality, performance, reliability, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain intricate test environments and stations, including the installation of hardware, drivers, and diagnostic software.
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot a wide array of electronic test and measurement equipment, such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and logic analyzers.
  • Meticulously document test results, anomalies, and system failures with clear, concise, and detailed information in bug tracking systems like JIRA or a similar platform.
  • Perform root cause analysis on identified hardware, firmware, and software defects, collaborating with engineering teams to replicate issues and verify fixes.
  • Develop and refine test scripts using languages like Python, LabVIEW, or Bash to automate repetitive testing tasks and improve efficiency and coverage.
  • Conduct environmental and stress testing, including thermal cycling, vibration, shock, and humidity tests, to ensure product robustness and longevity under various operating conditions.
  • Flash firmware, install operating systems, and configure software on units under test to prepare them for specific testing protocols.
  • Read and interpret complex technical documentation, including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and engineering specifications, to understand product design and test requirements.
  • Assemble and disassemble prototype and production-level electro-mechanical systems and components for testing, inspection, and failure analysis.
  • Manage and maintain the inventory of test equipment, lab supplies, and units under test, ensuring all tools are calibrated and in good working order.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to design, hardware, and software engineering teams on potential design improvements, usability issues, and manufacturability concerns discovered during testing.
  • Author and update detailed technical documentation, including test procedures, setup guides, and summary reports for internal stakeholders and formal verification records.
  • Participate in design and product development reviews to provide input on design for testability (DFT) and identify potential quality risks early in the lifecycle.
  • Isolate failures to the component or sub-assembly level, performing initial triage to determine if the issue is related to hardware, software, firmware, or the test environment itself.
  • Perform regression testing on new software/firmware releases to ensure that bug fixes have not introduced new problems into the system.
  • Ensure all testing activities are conducted in compliance with internal quality management systems (QMS) and external regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, IEC, FCC).
  • Validate the functionality of custom test fixtures and diagnostic tools, ensuring they are performing as expected before use in formal testing.
  • Conduct PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) level testing and inspection, identifying soldering defects, component issues, and board-level failures.
  • Prepare and present detailed summary reports of test findings, including data analysis, trend identification, and go/no-go recommendations for product release milestones.

  • Contribute to the organization's overall quality strategy and continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with business units and product managers to understand customer use cases and translate them into effective test scenarios.
  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective meetings within an Agile development framework.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Test Equipment Proficiency: Hands-on expertise with standard electronic test and measurement tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, power supplies, thermal chambers).
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Strong ability to diagnose and perform root cause analysis on complex electro-mechanical systems down to the component level.
  • Schematic & Drawing Interpretation: Proven ability to read and understand electrical schematics, block diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Test Automation/Scripting: Basic to intermediate experience with a scripting language such as Python, Bash, Perl, or LabVIEW for automating tests.
  • Hardware/Software Integration: Experience with flashing firmware, installing operating systems (Windows, Linux), and configuring software on test units.

  • Bug Tracking Systems: Proficiency in using defect tracking tools like JIRA, Bugzilla, or Azure DevOps to report and manage issues.
  • Technical Documentation: Ability to write clear and concise test plans, procedures, and reports.

Educational Background
