Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Deliver engaging, interactive, and comprehensive theoretical instruction on subjects including skin anatomy, physiology, histology, chemistry, and ingredient knowledge, adhering to the approved curriculum.
  • Conduct dynamic, hands-on practical training sessions on the clinic floor, demonstrating and supervising a wide range of esthetic services such as facials, waxing, body treatments, and makeup application.
  • Prepare students thoroughly for the state board licensing examination by administering practical and written mock exams, providing constructive feedback, and leading focused review sessions.
  • Evaluate and document student progress through a variety of assessment tools, including practical evaluations, written tests, quizzes, and project-based assignments, maintaining accurate and timely grade records.
  • Foster a professional, safe, and sanitary learning environment at all times, rigorously enforcing all state board regulations, school policies, and health and safety protocols.
  • Mentor, motivate, and coach students on an individual basis, providing guidance on their professional development, career goals, and challenges within the program.
  • Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet the diverse learning styles, needs, and abilities of a varied student population.
  • Present and demonstrate the proper use, safety, and maintenance of all professional esthetics equipment, including steamers, high-frequency machines, microdermabrasion units, and LED therapy devices.
  • Integrate business-building and retail sales skills into the curriculum, teaching students effective client consultation, communication, and product recommendation strategies.
  • Maintain a current and deep understanding of industry trends, emerging techniques, new product lines, and evolving state regulations to ensure the curriculum remains relevant and cutting-edge.
  • Plan and prepare daily lesson plans, lectures, and hands-on activities in accordance with the master curriculum schedule, ensuring all academic objectives are met.
  • Supervise all student activities on the clinic floor, ensuring exceptional customer service is provided to all clients and that treatments are performed to the highest professional standard.
  • Enforce school attendance and conduct policies consistently and fairly to promote a structured and respectful academic environment.
  • Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and school-sponsored events such as open houses and graduation ceremonies.
  • Counsel students on academic or attendance issues, creating and implementing action plans for improvement to support student retention and success.
  • Uphold and model a superior standard of professional conduct, appearance, and communication, serving as a positive role model for students.
  • Manage classroom and clinic floor dynamics effectively, resolving conflicts and ensuring a collaborative and supportive atmosphere for all learners.
  • Assist students in developing their professional portfolios and resumes, providing feedback to help them prepare for job interviews and career placement.
  • Coordinate with school administration to ensure all necessary products, tools, and supplies for the clinic floor and classroom are available and properly inventoried.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in maintaining accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and progress reports, utilizing the school's designated student information system.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the esthetics program by providing feedback on curriculum, teaching materials, and student outcomes.
  • Participate in the inventory management and ordering process for professional products and educational supplies used in the classroom and student clinic.
  • Support student recruitment efforts by participating in tours for prospective students, sharing insights about the program and the esthetics profession.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Current State Esthetics License & Esthetics Instructor License: Non-negotiable requirement for legal instruction.
  • Advanced Treatment Proficiency: Demonstrable expertise in advanced modalities such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, microneedling, dermaplaning, and LED light therapy.
  • In-Depth Knowledge of Skin Science: Mastery of skin anatomy, physiology, and cosmetic chemistry.
  • State Board Regulation Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of state-specific sanitation, safety, and licensing laws.
  • Curriculum & Lesson Planning: Ability to develop, organize, and execute effective lesson plans that meet educational objectives.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current, valid State Esthetics License
  • Current, valid State Esthetics Instructor License

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • CIDESCO or ITEC International Diploma
  • Certifications in advanced modalities or specific professional brands (e.g., Dermalogica, PCA Skin)

Relevant Fields of Study:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 3-5 years of documented, hands-on experience working as a licensed esthetician in a spa, medi-spa, or clinical setting.
