Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Oversee and manage all phases of excavation projects, including mass earthwork, site grading, utility installation (storm, sanitary, water), and soil stabilization from pre-construction to final completion.
- Directly supervise, coordinate, and mentor excavation crews, heavy equipment operators, and subcontractors to ensure project specifications, quality standards, and timelines are met.
- Interpret and implement civil engineering plans, blueprints, and specifications to guide on-site operations and ensure accuracy in grading, elevations, and trenching.
- Champion and enforce a rigorous site-wide safety program, conducting daily safety briefings (toolbox talks), site inspections, and ensuring strict compliance with OSHA and all local safety regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and execute detailed short-term and long-term project schedules, work plans, and phasing strategies in collaboration with the Project Manager to drive project momentum.
- Proactively identify, document, and resolve on-site issues, conflicts, and discrepancies in plans to prevent delays, cost overruns, and rework.
- Manage the daily scheduling, mobilization, and maintenance of all heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, and compactors, to maximize utilization and operational readiness.
- Monitor and track daily production rates, crew performance, and resource allocation to ensure project budgets and productivity goals are consistently achieved.
- Maintain accurate and thorough daily project documentation, including field reports, daily logs, crew timecards, production quantities, safety audits, and as-built drawings.
- Coordinate with utility locators (e.g., 811 services) to ensure all underground utilities are precisely identified, marked, and protected before any excavation work commences.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, inspectors, engineers, and regulatory agencies, fostering positive, professional relationships and facilitating clear communication.
- Conduct continuous quality control inspections throughout all phases of the excavation process to ensure work conforms to project standards and specifications.
- Lead the planning and execution of complex excavation tasks, such as deep excavations, the installation of shoring and trenching safety systems, and site dewatering operations.
- Analyze and interpret geotechnical reports to understand soil conditions, groundwater levels, and potential site challenges, adjusting excavation plans accordingly for safety and efficiency.
- Manage site logistics, including access routes, laydown areas, material stockpiles, and traffic control plans, to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

- Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
- Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
