Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Prepare and clean exterior surfaces prior to the application of finishing materials, including scraping, sanding, and applying base coats or primers.
  • Accurately measure, cut, and install a variety of siding products, including vinyl, fiber cement (James Hardie), wood, and metal panels, ensuring proper alignment and fit.
  • Apply Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS), including the attachment of insulation boards, application of base coats, embedding of mesh, and application of the final textured finish.
  • Expertly mix and apply traditional and synthetic stucco finishes, ensuring consistent texture, thickness, and a seamless appearance across large wall surfaces.
  • Install windows, doors, and skylights, ensuring they are properly flashed, sealed, and integrated into the building's weather-resistant barrier.
  • Install architectural trim, soffit, fascia, and decorative moulding to complete the building's exterior design and protect structural components.
  • Execute detailed flashing and waterproofing techniques around windows, doors, and roof-to-wall intersections to create a watertight building envelope.
  • Read and interpret architectural blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure all work is completed according to the project design.
  • Operate a range of power tools, such as circular saws, miter saws, nail guns, and grinders, as well as hand tools with precision and a focus on safety.
  • Erect and work safely from scaffolding, ladders, and aerial lifts to access all areas of the building exterior, adhering to all fall protection regulations.
  • Perform detailed caulking and sealing of joints, seams, and penetrations to prevent air and moisture infiltration.
  • Conduct repairs on damaged EIFS, stucco, or siding, matching existing textures and colors to create a seamless patch.
  • Inspect substrate conditions to ensure they are suitable for the application of exterior finishes and report any issues to the site supervisor.
  • Apply various coatings, sealants, and paints to exterior surfaces for enhanced protection and aesthetic appeal.

Secondary Functions

  • Collaborate effectively with other construction trades, such as framers, roofers, and painters, to coordinate workflow and ensure project timelines are met.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including daily site cleanup and proper disposal of waste materials.
  • Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols and procedures to minimize risk and ensure a safe working environment for the entire crew.

  • Mentor and provide on-the-job training to apprentices and less-experienced laborers, sharing knowledge of best practices and techniques.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings (toolbox talks) and contribute to identifying and mitigating potential job site hazards.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 3-5+ years of proven experience in exterior finishing, including siding, EIFS, or stucco installation.

Preferred:

  • Journeyman-level experience with a portfolio of completed commercial and/or residential projects. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is highly desirable. Experience leading a small crew is a significant plus.
