Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive external relations, public affairs, and communications strategies to advance the organization's mission and goals.
  • Cultivate and maintain robust relationships with a diverse range of key stakeholders, including government officials, regulatory bodies, media outlets, industry associations, community leaders, and partner organizations.
  • Act as a primary spokesperson and official representative for the organization at high-profile external events, conferences, panels, and critical meetings.
  • Proactively monitor, analyze, and interpret public policy, legislative changes, and industry trends to identify potential risks and opportunities for the organization.
  • Draft, edit, and disseminate a wide array of high-impact communication materials, including press releases, briefing documents, position papers, talking points, speeches, and annual reports.
  • Manage all aspects of media relations, including fostering relationships with journalists, responding to media inquiries, pitching compelling stories, and coordinating press conferences and interviews.
  • Conceive, plan, and execute strategic events such as stakeholder roundtables, policy forums, product launches, and community engagement initiatives to enhance visibility and foster dialogue.
  • Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships and alliances that amplify the organization's brand, extend its reach, and create synergistic value.
  • Provide expert counsel and strategic advice to senior leadership and the executive team on sensitive external affairs issues, reputational management, and communication opportunities.
  • Lead advocacy and lobbying efforts by developing targeted campaigns and engaging directly with policymakers to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed and insightful briefing materials to equip senior executives for successful external engagements, interviews, and public appearances.
  • Oversee the strategic direction for digital communication channels, ensuring website content, social media presence, and email campaigns are aligned with external relations objectives.
  • Represent the organization's interests in multi-stakeholder coalitions, industry working groups, and public forums to shape broader conversations and policy.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget for external relations activities, ensuring optimal resource allocation and measurable return on investment.
  • Direct crisis communication protocols, serving as the central coordinator to develop and execute rapid, effective, and cohesive response strategies during challenging situations.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement initiatives, providing regular reports to leadership.

Secondary Functions

  • Manage and maintain the stakeholder CRM database to ensure accurate contact information and to track the history of engagement and communication.
  • Support resource mobilization and fundraising efforts by identifying and cultivating relationships with potential donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
