Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute the complete setup and operation of single or twin-screw extrusion lines in accordance with detailed production schedules, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Perform complex machine changeovers, which includes the precise installation and alignment of dies, breaker plates, screen packs, and downstream equipment.
  • Continuously monitor critical process parameters such as melt temperature, screw speed, barrel pressure, and line speed, making proactive adjustments to ensure product conformity.
  • Conduct first-article and in-process quality control checks using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and profilometers to verify dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Systematically troubleshoot and resolve process deviations and equipment malfunctions in real-time to minimize production downtime and reduce scrap rates.
  • Interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing orders to accurately determine setup configurations and operational requirements.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on extrusion machinery and auxiliary equipment, including thorough cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of critical components.
  • Diagnose and report mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic/pneumatic failures, and collaborate directly with the maintenance team to facilitate efficient repairs.
  • Manage the preparation and handling of raw materials, including the accurate blending of polymer resins, additives, and colorants, while ensuring strict lot traceability.
  • Diligently document all production data, process adjustments, quality inspection results, and downtime events in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or production logbooks.
  • Champion a safety-first culture by strictly adhering to all safety protocols, especially Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during machine setup, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance department to investigate the root cause of product defects and participate in the implementation of robust corrective and preventive actions.
  • Actively participate in the training and mentoring of new operators and technicians on standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and quality control methods.
  • Proactively optimize machine settings and process parameters to enhance production efficiency, improve cycle times, reduce material waste, and elevate overall product quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by consistently applying 5S principles and adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment to transport raw materials, heavy tooling, and finished goods throughout the facility.
  • Calibrate, adjust, and maintain downstream equipment such as pullers, cutters, cooling tanks, winders, and saws to ensure they function in sync with the extruder.
  • Monitor and regulate cooling systems, including water troughs and air rings, to achieve consistent product crystallization, dimensional stability, and physical properties.
  • Perform meticulous tooling maintenance, including the expert cleaning, inspection, and polishing of dies and calibrators to prevent process defects and maximize tool lifespan.
  • Engage in continuous improvement projects and Kaizen events, providing valuable shop-floor insights and suggestions for process, safety, and quality enhancements.
  • Support the Research & Development and Engineering teams by assisting with the trial runs and process validation for new products, advanced materials, and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure that all finished products are properly packaged, correctly labeled with all required information, and staged efficiently for warehouse transfer or customer shipment.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the maintenance department with more complex machine repairs, component rebuilds, and equipment installations during scheduled plant shutdowns.
  • Contribute to raw material inventory management by accurately tracking consumption, monitoring stock levels, and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Support the engineering and quality teams in the development, review, and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the extrusion department.
  • Participate in facility-wide safety committee meetings and represent the department in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional team projects.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep proficiency in the setup, operation, and advanced troubleshooting of single-screw and/or twin-screw extruders.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for machine assembly, disassembly, tooling changes, and preventative maintenance.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret technical blueprints, engineering schematics, and detailed work orders.
  • Expertise in using a wide range of precision measuring instruments, including digital calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, and optical comparators.
  • In-depth knowledge of various polymer materials (e.g., PVC, HDPE, LLDPE, PP, PET, ABS) and their specific processing characteristics.
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of downstream extrusion equipment such as pullers, cutters, saws, winders, and embossers.
  • Foundational understanding of industrial electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for effective troubleshooting.
  • Skill in performing efficient and precise die changes, tooling setup, and screen pack replacements.
  • Familiarity with process control logic and operating Human-Machine Interface (HMI) panels to control machine parameters.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and consistent application of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and other critical industrial safety procedures.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and record-keeping in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
