Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Interpret and analyze complex ophthalmic prescriptions and work orders to ensure precise lens fabrication.
Operate and maintain sophisticated optical lab equipment, including automatic lens edgers, blockers, and lensometers.
Accurately trace and cut lenses to the exact size and shape required for various frame styles, including full-rim, semi-rimless, and rimless designs.
Mount and secure lenses into frames, ensuring proper axis alignment, pupillary distance (PD), and optical center (OC) placement.
Conduct rigorous quality control inspections on all finished eyewear to verify adherence to ANSI Z80.1 tolerance standards and internal quality benchmarks.
Perform detailed neutralization and verification of incoming lenses from suppliers using a manual or automated lensometer.
Execute intricate adjustments and repairs on eyewear, including hinge repairs, screw replacements, nose pad adjustments, and frame straightening to ensure optimal fit and comfort for the customer.
Apply specialized lens treatments, such as tints and UV coatings, according to specifications.
Skillfully handle and troubleshoot challenging orders, including high-prescription lenses, progressive lenses, and prism corrections.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of various lens materials (e.g., polycarbonate, Trivex, high-index) and their unique handling properties.
Execute precision drilling and grooving for rimless and semi-rimless frame assemblies.
Manage the workflow of jobs to meet and exceed promised delivery times, prioritizing rush orders as needed.
Perform final inspection of eyewear, cleaning and packaging the final product for dispensing to the patient.
Stay current with the latest optical technologies, lens designs, and fabrication techniques through continuous learning and training.

Secondary Functions

Manage and maintain inventory levels for lab supplies, stock lenses, frames, and repair parts.
Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and preventative maintenance on all laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Communicate effectively with the dispensing opticians and optometrists to clarify prescription details or resolve order discrepancies.
Assist in training new lab technicians on equipment operation, safety protocols, and quality standards.
Process and track lab orders through the point-of-sale (POS) or lab management system from entry to completion.
Handle and document returns, remakes, and warranty claims, investigating the root cause to prevent future errors.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations.

Minimum Education:
