Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Provide an exceptional, patient-centric customer service experience from initial greeting to final eyewear dispensing and follow-up.
- Expertly guide patients in selecting eyewear frames and sunglasses that are flattering, functional, and aligned with their personal style and prescription requirements.
- Educate patients on the features and benefits of various lens materials, designs, and treatments such as anti-reflective, blue light filtering, and photochromic lenses.
- Accurately interpret and analyze complex optical prescriptions as written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
- Take precise optical measurements, including pupillary distance (PD), optical center (OC) height, segment height, and other critical frame measurements for proper lens fitting.
- Utilize a lensometer to accurately verify the power of incoming prescription lenses from the lab and to neutralize existing patient eyewear.
- Perform skilled adjustments, modifications, and repairs to eyewear using specialized tools to ensure a comfortable and precise fit for the patient.
- Troubleshoot and resolve patient concerns regarding their vision, comfort, or the aesthetics of their new eyewear with empathy and professionalism.
- Process customer orders accurately through the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, including calculating costs and applying vision insurance benefits.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and clearly explain their coverage, co-pays, and out-of-pocket expenses for frames, lenses, and contact lenses.
- Provide comprehensive instruction and hands-on training to patients on the proper insertion, removal, cleaning, and overall care of contact lenses.
- Achieve and consistently exceed personal and team sales goals and other key performance indicators (KPIs) set by management.
- Collaborate effectively with optometrists, office staff, and lab technicians to create a seamless and positive patient experience across all touchpoints.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain a deep and current knowledge of eyewear trends, designer brands, and emerging lens technologies to serve as a true subject matter expert.
- Manage the frame board inventory, including stocking, organizing, and ensuring all products are merchandised attractively to drive sales.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with placing orders for frames, lenses, and other essential optical supplies.
- Prepare and transmit detailed orders to the optical laboratory, ensuring all specifications, measurements, and special instructions are meticulously correct.
- Perform rigorous quality control checks on all completed eyewear orders received from the lab to ensure they meet practice standards and prescription accuracy.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and highly professional dispensary and retail environment that reflects the quality of care provided.
- Proactively follow up with patients via phone or email after their purchase to ensure satisfaction and address any adaptation issues.
- Assist with scheduling patient appointments for eye exams, contact lens fittings, and eyewear dispensing as needed.
