Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Serve as a style expert, guiding clients through a personalized selection process to find eyewear that perfectly complements their facial features, lifestyle, and prescription requirements.
  • Accurately take and record all necessary optical measurements, including pupillary distance (PD), optical center (OC) height, and segment height, ensuring precision for lens manufacturing.
  • Perform expert-level frame adjustments, repairs, and fittings using specialized tools to ensure optimal comfort, vision, and long-term wear for every client.
  • Educate clients on the diverse range of lens materials, coatings, and treatments (e.g., anti-reflective, blue-light filtering, high-index, photochromic) to enhance their visual experience.
  • Proactively build and maintain a personal client book, cultivating long-term relationships through personalized communication and follow-up to drive repeat business and referrals.
  • Consistently meet and exceed individual and team sales targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) through proactive client engagement and expert consultative selling techniques.
  • Accurately interpret and understand optical prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists to guide customers toward appropriate lens and frame solutions.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle by processing customer orders accurately through the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, handling payments, and managing insurance claim submissions.
  • Receive and meticulously inspect incoming orders from the optical lab, verifying prescription accuracy and frame quality against the original work order before notifying clients.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all customer inquiries, concerns, and troubleshooting, providing timely and effective solutions to ensure a positive brand experience.
  • Continuously develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of all frame and lens products, including brand stories, design inspiration, materials, and new technological advancements.
  • Uphold impeccable store aesthetics and visual merchandising standards, ensuring the sales floor is clean, organized, and attractively presents the eyewear collection.
  • Work in close collaboration with on-site optometrists and opticians to ensure a seamless and holistic patient journey from eye exam to final eyewear fitting.
  • Clearly explain patients' vision insurance benefits and coverage, helping them understand and maximize their plan's value for frames, lenses, and contact lenses.
  • Proficiently operate standard optical equipment such as a lensometer, frame warmer, and various adjustment tools for fitting, verification, and minor repair purposes.
  • Engage in in-store events, trunk shows, and community outreach initiatives to promote the brand, generate excitement, and attract a new clientele.
  • Strictly adhere to all privacy and security regulations, including HIPAA, to protect sensitive patient health information during all interactions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including prescriptions, contact information, measurements, and purchase history, within the practice management system.
  • Assist in training and onboarding new team members, sharing best practices in styling, sales processes, and optical procedures to foster a knowledgeable and effective team.
  • Manage appointment scheduling for eye exams and styling consultations, optimizing the daily schedule for an efficient and pleasant flow of clients.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with daily operational duties, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and end-of-day reporting.
  • Contribute to inventory control by assisting with stock counts, receiving new shipments, and organizing back-stock areas.
  • Support visual merchandising directives by updating displays, styling mannequins, and ensuring all product is presented according to brand guidelines.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, training sessions, and product knowledge workshops to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
  • American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification is a significant plus.
