Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, develop, and execute original, innovative, and commercially-viable print and pattern designs for various product categories, from initial inspiration to final production-ready artwork.
  • Conduct extensive research on seasonal trends, themes, color palettes, and competitor offerings to ensure designs are relevant, fresh, and aligned with the brand's aesthetic.
  • Create and manage detailed technical specifications for all artwork, including creating seamless repeats, defining color standards, and preparing files for digital and screen printing.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including merchants, product developers, and buyers, to understand assortment needs and ensure design concepts are aligned with business objectives.
  • Develop multiple colorways for approved patterns, demonstrating a strong understanding of color theory and its application to different markets and product lines.
  • Manage the design process from concept through to production, including reviewing and providing clear, actionable feedback on lab dips, strike-offs, and bulk production samples.
  • Present design concepts, mood boards, and final artwork to key stakeholders and leadership during seasonal milestone meetings.
  • Maintain and meticulously organize the digital asset library of all prints, patterns, and design resources for easy access and future use.
  • Adapt and re-color existing artwork and archival prints to create newness and extend the life of successful designs across seasons.
  • Source inspirational materials, including vintage textiles, art books, and market samples, to fuel creativity and build a rich design resource library.
  • Design and develop jacquards, wovens, and dobby patterns, creating technical files and communicating specifications to mills.
  • Ensure all designs are created to scale and are appropriate for the intended product application and fabrication.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any art or production-related issues that arise with vendors and manufacturing partners.
  • Translate hand-painted or hand-drawn artwork into production-ready digital files, preserving the original artistic integrity while ensuring technical accuracy.
  • Work within a seasonal design calendar, managing multiple projects simultaneously and adhering to strict development deadlines.
  • Stay current with advancements in design software, printing technology, and sustainable textile practices.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions with the wider design team to foster a creative and collaborative environment.
  • Create compelling visual presentations and product mockups to help visualize how patterns will look on finished goods.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for market research, trend shopping, and mill visits as required.
  • Interpret trend direction and design briefs from creative leadership into tangible, on-brand artwork.
  • Engineer prints to fit specific garment patterns or product shapes, ensuring optimal placement and visual impact.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the senior design team with ad-hoc projects, research, and the preparation of presentation materials.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of physical and digital color palettes for each season.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and e-commerce teams to ensure design stories are communicated effectively to the customer.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Adobe Creative Suite: Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is essential.
  • CAD for Textiles: Strong experience with specialized textile design software (e.g., NedGraphics, Kaledo, Pointcarre).
  • Repeat Creation: Mastery of creating seamless, production-ready repeats for various printing methods.
  • Color Theory: A sophisticated eye for color and demonstrated expertise in creating balanced and commercially appealing colorways.
  • Textile Knowledge: Deep understanding of fabric constructions, printing techniques (digital, screen, rotary), and dyeing processes.
  • Technical Specifications: Ability to create clear and accurate technical packages and spec sheets for mills.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
