Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate various production line machinery and heavy equipment, ensuring proper setup, calibration, and safe execution according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform manual assembly of components and finished products with high precision and attention to detail, following detailed work instructions and blueprints.
  • Monitor the production process and machinery to detect any malfunctions or deviations from quality standards, making minor adjustments as needed.
  • Conduct regular quality control inspections on raw materials, in-process components, and final products to ensure they meet company and customer specifications.
  • Load and unload materials, products, and equipment onto and off pallets, carts, and conveyors, both manually and with material handling equipment.
  • Safely use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools to assemble, modify, and finish products.
  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and production schedules to determine material requirements, specifications, and processing instructions.
  • Package finished products according to established guidelines, ensuring proper labeling, sealing, and stacking for shipment or storage.
  • Maintain accurate production records and logs, documenting output, downtime, quality issues, and material usage throughout the shift.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of machinery and equipment, reporting complex issues to maintenance personnel promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Handle, transport, and dispose of raw materials, finished goods, and waste products in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, supervisors, and quality assurance staff to meet daily and weekly production goals.
  • Rotate through different tasks and workstations as required to support production flexibility and cover for absent colleagues.
  • Keep the immediate work area and the overall production floor clean, organized, and free of hazards to ensure a safe and efficient working environment (5S principles).
  • Assist in the setup and changeover of production lines for different product runs, ensuring all equipment is correctly configured.
  • Measure and weigh raw materials and finished products to ensure they conform to precise specifications.
  • Report any workplace hazards, incidents, or near-misses to a supervisor immediately to contribute to a proactive safety culture.
  • Feed raw materials into production machinery and monitor the flow to prevent jams and ensure continuous operation.
  • Visually inspect parts for defects such as cracks, scratches, or discoloration and segregate non-conforming products.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate actively in daily team meetings, safety briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure accuracy of stock levels.
  • Provide support in training new or less experienced laborers on standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Assist the maintenance team with basic preventative maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating machinery.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Machine Operation: Proficiency in operating and monitoring various manufacturing machinery (e.g., presses, conveyors, mixers, CNC machines).
  • Hand and Power Tool Proficiency: Skilled in the safe and effective use of tools like drills, grinders, sanders, and pneumatic wrenches.
  • Quality Control Inspection: Ability to perform visual inspections and use basic measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, tape measures) to check for defects.
  • Blueprint & Schematic Reading: Competence in reading and interpreting technical documents, work orders, and diagrams.
  • Material Handling: Experience with pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment; forklift certification is a significant plus.
  • Basic Math Skills: Ability to perform simple calculations, measurements, and conversions.
  • Knowledge of Safety Protocols: Understanding of OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Vocational or Technical School Certificate in a related field (e.g., Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Maintenance).

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 0 - 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or warehouse environment.
