Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive, year-long family engagement plan that aligns with organizational goals and promotes student success.
  • Serve as the primary liaison and consistent point of contact for families, fostering trusting relationships and facilitating two-way communication between families and staff.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a variety of engaging events, workshops, and meetings for families on topics such as academic support, child development, navigating the school system, and digital literacy.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to families through various channels, including phone calls, emails, newsletters, social media, and home visits, to build rapport and share important information.
  • Connect families with essential internal and external community resources, services, and support systems, including healthcare, housing, and food assistance, and follow up to ensure their needs are met.
  • Empower and equip parents to become leaders and advocates for their children’s education, providing training and opportunities for involvement in school governance and decision-making committees.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and academic leaders to support parent-teacher conferences, share insights on family needs, and develop unified strategies to support student learning.
  • Mediate and provide support to families and school staff to resolve concerns or conflicts in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of parent volunteers to support school events, classroom activities, and outreach efforts.
  • Design and facilitate orientations and onboarding sessions for new families to ensure they feel welcomed and informed from day one.
  • Maintain a welcoming and accessible family resource center or space, equipped with materials, computers, and information beneficial to parents and guardians.
  • Track and analyze family participation, engagement data, and feedback to measure the effectiveness of programs and inform future strategies.
  • Manage all logistics for family engagement events, including budgeting, vendor coordination, securing locations, and arranging for translation services and childcare.
  • Develop and distribute regular, clear, and culturally relevant communications to families in multiple languages and formats.
  • Actively recruit and support the enrollment and registration process for new students and families into our programs.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and handle sensitive family information with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and empathy.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the planning and execution of larger, all-school community-building events and celebrations.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all family interactions, services provided, and referrals made using a designated data system (e.g., CRM, SIS).
  • Assist in compiling data and creating reports on family engagement metrics for grant applications, board meetings, and internal review.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to stay current on best practices in family engagement, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Bilingual Fluency: Professional proficiency in English and another language (e.g., Spanish, Haitian Creole, Mandarin) is highly preferred.
  • Workshop Facilitation & Public Speaking: Ability to design and lead engaging presentations and workshops for diverse adult audiences.
  • Data Management & Reporting: Experience using Student Information Systems (SIS) or CRM software (like Salesforce) to track interactions and report on outcomes.
  • Microsoft Office Suite/Google Workspace: Proficiency with tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms for communication and organization.
  • Community Resource Mapping: Strong knowledge of and ability to navigate local community services, social service agencies, and support networks.
  • Event Planning & Logistics: Proven ability to manage all aspects of event coordination, from budgeting and scheduling to execution.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Psychology or Counseling

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 2-5 years of professional experience working directly with children and families in a school, non-profit, or community-based setting.

Preferred:

  • Experience conducting home visits and working with families in underserved communities.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful community outreach or family engagement programs.
  • Lived experience and background similar to the community being served is highly valued.
