Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Manage a substantial caseload of complex, often high-net-worth, family law matters from initial client consultation through final resolution, including divorce, property division, and custody disputes.
- Develop and execute sophisticated legal strategies for intricate cases involving business valuations, hidden assets, executive compensation, and inherited wealth.
- Serve as first-chair trial counsel in high-stakes family law litigation, demonstrating superior courtroom advocacy, evidentiary presentation, and command of legal procedure.
- Originate, develop, and maintain a significant and portable book of business, consistently meeting and exceeding revenue generation targets.
- Lead business development and marketing initiatives to enhance the firm's brand and visibility, including speaking at conferences, publishing articles, and cultivating referral networks.
- Provide direct supervision, strategic guidance, and hands-on mentorship to a team of associates, of counsel, and paralegals, fostering their professional growth.
- Conduct and oversee complex financial discovery and analysis, working closely with forensic accountants, valuation experts, and other financial professionals.
- Negotiate, draft, and review complex and nuanced agreements, including prenuptial, postnuptial, and marital settlement agreements, ensuring client objectives are met and protected.
- Act as the primary relationship manager for key clients, providing empathetic, responsive, and strategic counsel during emotionally challenging life transitions.
- Oversee case budgets, client billing, and accounts receivable to ensure the financial health and profitability of your practice and the broader group.
- Champion the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods, such as mediation and collaborative law, to achieve favorable and efficient out-of-court settlements when appropriate.
- Litigate complex and sensitive child custody matters, including contested move-away/relocation cases and disputes involving custody evaluations.
- Direct all facets of the discovery process in high-stakes litigation, including leading key depositions of parties and expert witnesses.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader on family law, keeping the firm and its clients informed of legislative changes and landmark court decisions.
- Argue complex motions and appeals in both trial and appellate courts, preparing compelling written briefs and delivering persuasive oral arguments.
- Participate actively in firm management, including strategic planning, partner meetings, and recruitment efforts, contributing to the firm's overall direction and success.
- Ensure all legal work produced by your team adheres to the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and ethical conduct.
- Review and provide final approval on all significant pleadings, motions, and client correspondence prepared by junior attorneys and staff.
