Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive on-farm consultations with growers to diagnose field issues, assess crop health, and develop customized, data-driven agronomic recommendations.
  • Perform regular and systematic crop scouting to monitor crop development, identify weed, insect, and disease pressures, and assess overall plant health.
  • Develop and implement sophisticated, season-long crop management plans that focus on maximizing yield, improving quality, and optimizing return on investment for the client.
  • Collect and interpret soil, tissue, and water samples, providing farmers with detailed analysis reports and precise nutrient management recommendations.
  • Create and manage detailed fertility programs, including variable rate technology (VRT) prescriptions, to ensure optimal nutrient availability and uptake throughout the growing cycle.
  • Advise on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, recommending appropriate chemical, biological, and cultural controls to manage pests, diseases, and weeds effectively and sustainably.
  • Champion and support the adoption of precision agriculture technologies, including GPS guidance, drone imagery, yield mapping, and farm management software, to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a deep, current knowledge of the latest agricultural research, emerging technologies, crop protection products, seed genetics, and industry trends.
  • Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with a portfolio of farmer clients, acting as their primary, trusted advisor for all agronomic decisions.
  • Provide expert guidance on irrigation scheduling and water management techniques to promote water conservation and ensure crop needs are met efficiently.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of various agricultural products and practices through on-farm trials and demonstrations, collecting data and presenting findings to clients and colleagues.
  • Prepare detailed field reports, analysis summaries, and year-end reviews for clients, documenting observations, recommendations, and performance outcomes.
  • Assist clients with crop rotation planning and cover crop selection to improve soil health, manage pests, and enhance long-term farm sustainability.
  • Stay informed on government agricultural programs, regulations, and environmental compliance requirements, advising clients on how to navigate them successfully.
  • Develop and deliver educational presentations and training sessions for growers at field days, workshops, and community meetings.
  • Provide sales support by identifying client needs and recommending appropriate products and services that align with their operational goals.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex agronomic problems in the field, ranging from nutrient deficiencies and soil compaction to herbicide injury and pest resistance.
