Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, manage, and execute the farm's annual operating budget, capital expenditure plans, and long-range financial forecasts to ensure profitability.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of crop production planning, from seed selection and nutrient management to planting schedules and harvest logistics.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse farm team, handling recruitment, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and daily work allocation.
  • Analyze farm financial statements, including P&L, cash flow projections, and balance sheets, to monitor performance and guide strategic decisions.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies for farm commodities, monitoring market trends and executing sales to maximize revenue.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors, suppliers, service providers, and landowners to secure favorable terms and build strong business relationships.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all environmental, safety (OSHA), agricultural, and employment regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Spearhead the farm's risk management program, including securing appropriate crop insurance, exploring hedging strategies, and mitigating operational risks.
  • Oversee the management of farm assets, including the maintenance, repair, and replacement schedule for all machinery, equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.
  • Drive the adoption and integration of precision agriculture technologies and farm management software to enhance operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
  • Prepare and present detailed operational and financial performance reports to ownership, investors, or a board of directors on a regular basis.
  • Manage and optimize inventory levels for all inputs, such as seed, fertilizer, and chemicals, as well as harvested crops in storage.
  • Lead the strategic business planning process to identify and evaluate opportunities for expansion, diversification, and long-term growth.
  • Foster a proactive and robust safety culture across all farm operations, implementing safety protocols and conducting regular training sessions.
  • Manage all aspects of land tenure, including lease negotiations, rental agreements, and analysis of potential land acquisitions or sales.
  • Direct the logistical coordination of the farm, including input delivery, grain transportation, and management of on-site and off-site storage facilities.
