Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform advanced diagnostics on diesel engines, powertrains, and electrical systems using manufacturer-specific software and diagnostic tools to identify faults and failures.
- Execute comprehensive repairs and maintenance on a wide range of agricultural equipment, including tractors, combines, planters, balers, and self-propelled sprayers.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild complex hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, and motors, ensuring they meet operational specifications.
- Conduct preventative and seasonal maintenance services, such as fluid and filter changes, lubrication, and thorough inspections to minimize unexpected downtime.
- Perform on-site field repairs and service calls, often working independently in various conditions to get critical equipment back online during planting and harvest seasons.
- Utilize welding and fabrication skills (Stick, MIG) to repair structural damage, modify components, and create custom brackets or parts as needed.
- Assemble, set up, and perform pre-delivery inspections on new equipment, ensuring it is customer-ready and configured correctly.
- Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot precision agriculture systems, including GPS guidance, auto-steer, yield monitors, and variable rate controllers.
- Disassemble and rebuild major components, such as engines, transmissions, and final drives, according to technical manuals and manufacturer guidelines.
- Read and interpret complex technical schematics, service manuals, and bulletins to accurately diagnose and complete repairs.
- Perform air conditioning system diagnostics and repairs, including evacuation, recharging, and component replacement on various machine cabs.
- Conduct thorough post-season equipment inspections and recommend necessary repairs and reconditioning to prepare for the next season.
- Ensure all work is completed to the highest standards of safety and quality, performing final operational tests on all serviced machinery.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all service work, billable hours, and parts used on digital or paper work orders.
- Communicate effectively with Service Managers and customers, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, recommended repairs, and estimated timelines.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment, adhering to all company and OSHA safety protocols.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior technicians and apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practices for equipment repair.

- Hydraulic Systems Expertise: Proven ability to read hydraulic schematics and troubleshoot complex open and closed-loop systems.
- Electrical & Electronic Troubleshooting: Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing 12/24V electrical systems, CAN bus networks, and electronic control modules.
- Diagnostic Software Proficiency: Experience using OEM diagnostic software such as John Deere Service Advisor, CNH EST, or CAT ET.
