Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Skillfully operate and maintain a diverse fleet of heavy agricultural machinery, including tractors, combines, planters, sprayers, and tillage equipment for all phases of crop production.
- Execute seasonal fieldwork with precision, including primary and secondary tillage, seedbed preparation, planting, and seeding according to established plans.
- Manage crop health through the timely and accurate application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Conduct comprehensive crop scouting to monitor plant growth, identify weed, insect, and disease pressures, and report findings to the management team.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance, as well as minor to moderate repairs, on all farm equipment, vehicles, and implements to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Operate and manage advanced irrigation systems, including center pivots and drip lines, to ensure efficient water distribution and optimal soil moisture levels for crop needs.
- Oversee the entire harvesting process, from operating combines and other harvesting equipment to coordinating the logistics of transporting crops from the field to storage facilities.
- Handle and manage harvested grain, including operating augers, conveyors, and grain dryers, while monitoring quality and storage conditions.
- Assist in livestock operations, which may include daily feeding, monitoring animal health, administering medications, and moving herds or flocks as required.
- Utilize modern precision agriculture technology, including GPS guidance systems, auto-steer, and variable rate application controllers, to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintain accurate and detailed operational records, including field activities, application logs, maintenance schedules, and yield data, using farm management software.
- Safely transport commodities, supplies, and heavy equipment between farm locations, often requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Participate in the construction and maintenance of farm infrastructure, such as fencing, drainage systems, buildings, and corrals.
- Manage hay and forage production, including cutting, tedding, raking, and baling, ensuring high-quality feed for livestock.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Heavy Equipment Operation: Proficiency with a wide range of farm machinery, including tractors (150hp+), combines, sprayers, and balers.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance and repairs on agricultural equipment and diesel engines.
- Precision Ag Technology: Experience using GPS guidance, auto-steer, yield monitors, and other farm management software.
