Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conceptualize and develop original, innovative design concepts and seasonal collections that align with the overarching brand aesthetic, market trends, and commercial objectives.
- Conduct comprehensive market research and trend analysis by attending trade shows, analyzing competitor landscapes, and studying fashion publications to inform and inspire design direction.
- Create detailed and accurate technical sketches and flat drawings using Adobe Illustrator for design development, factory communication, and spec packages.
- Develop seasonal color palettes and curate fabric and trim selections that are brand-appropriate and meet cost targets.
- Prepare and present compelling seasonal mood boards, design concepts, and product assortments to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate closely with merchandising and product development teams to ensure designs are commercially viable, meet target price points, and align with assortment plans.
- Manage the design process from concept to final sample, ensuring all deadlines within the product development calendar are met.
- Participate actively in all fittings, providing clear and concise comments on fit, proportion, and construction to technical designers and patternmakers for sample revisions.
- Create and maintain detailed tech packs, including bill of materials (BOMs), construction details, and artwork specifications for seamless handoff to production.
- Source and develop new fabrics, trims, and raw materials in partnership with the materials team to drive innovation and maintain quality standards.
- Develop and execute original prints, graphics, and embellishments that enhance the collection and reinforce the brand's narrative.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the target customer's lifestyle, preferences, and shopping habits to design relevant and desirable products.
- Travel domestically and internationally for market research, inspiration, and supplier meetings as needed.
- Ensure design and sample archives, both physical and digital, are meticulously organized and maintained for future reference.
- Communicate daily with overseas vendors and factories regarding sample development, providing feedback and resolving design-related issues.
Secondary Functions
- Support the development of special capsule collections, collaborations, and exclusive product lines.
- Assist the marketing and e-commerce teams by providing design insights and product details for photoshoots and campaigns.
- Mentor and provide guidance to assistant or associate-level designers within the team.
- Contribute to showroom setup and presentation for market weeks and key buyer meetings.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies in design, such as 3D design software (e.g., CLO 3D), and explore their application within the design process.
- Participate in post-season analysis and hindsight meetings to identify successes, opportunities, and key learnings to apply to future collections.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Adobe Creative Suite: Expert-level proficiency in Illustrator for technical flats and Photoshop for mood boards and renderings.
- Technical Sketching: Strong ability to create clean, accurate, and detailed flat sketches that clearly communicate design intent.
- Garment Construction & Pattern Making: Deep knowledge of sewing, pattern making, draping, and how garments are constructed.

Minimum Education:
