- Accurately select and install various types of fasteners, including but not limited to solid rivets, blind rivets, hi-loks, bolts, screws, and nuts, using specified tooling.
- Operate a range of hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic equipment such as rivet guns, bucking bars, torque wrenches, drills, and screwdrivers with precision and control.
- Perform self-inspections on all work performed to ensure assemblies meet strict quality standards, dimensional specifications, and functional requirements.
- Set up and operate light machinery, including drill presses, riveting machines, and presses, to prepare and join parts as part of the assembly process.
- Meticulously measure parts and components using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications.
- Maintain a high level of productivity to meet and exceed daily and weekly production targets and deadlines without compromising quality or safety.
- Document assembly and inspection activities accurately by completing production logs, traceability forms, and non-conformance reports as required.
- Follow all established company safety protocols and OSHA guidelines, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, leads, and supervisors to troubleshoot assembly issues and contribute to a smooth and efficient production flow.
- Prepare and clean surfaces of components prior to assembly, ensuring they are free from debris, oils, and contaminants that could affect joint quality.
- Handle and position parts of varying sizes and weights, sometimes with the assistance of lifting devices, to prepare for the fastening process.
- Identify and report any defective components, material shortages, or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor or quality personnel in a timely manner.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the personal workspace and surrounding assembly area, adhering to 5S principles and good manufacturing practices.
- Perform basic rework and repairs on assemblies that do not meet quality standards, following approved procedures to correct discrepancies.
- Apply sealants, adhesives, or other bonding agents to components as specified in the work instructions before or after the fastening process.
- Cross-train on different assembly stations and product lines to enhance flexibility and provide support to other areas of the production floor as needed.
- Monitor the supply of fasteners and other consumables at the workstation, notifying the material handler or team lead when stock is running low.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss production goals, safety topics, and continuous improvement opportunities within the assembly department.
- Adjust, align, and fit parts to close tolerances, often performing minor modifications like deburring, filing, or reaming to achieve proper fit.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in routine preventative maintenance on assembly tools and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and longevity.
- Participate in periodic inventory counts to help maintain accurate stock levels of fasteners, components, and shop supplies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by providing practical feedback on assembly processes and suggesting potential enhancements for safety, quality, or efficiency.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to help identify the root cause of recurring defects and participate in implementing corrective actions.
