Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Precisely measure and lay out fence lines, post locations, and gate placements according to blueprints, site plans, and property survey markers.
- Operate specialized power equipment, including gas-powered augers, skid steers with attachments, and trenchers, to excavate holes for posts and footings.
- Set fence posts in concrete, ensuring they are perfectly plumb, level, and set to the correct height and depth for maximum stability.
- Assemble and install a diverse range of fencing materials, including wood privacy fences, vinyl panels, chain-link fabric, ornamental aluminum, and agricultural wire.
- Custom-cut and fabricate fence components on-site using saws, grinders, and other tools to accommodate terrain variations and specific project requirements.
- Securely fasten rails, pickets, and panels to posts using a variety of hardware, such as nails, screws, brackets, and tension bands.
- Stretch and attach chain-link fabric to the framework, ensuring proper tension for a taut, secure, and professional finish.
- Install and adjust gates, including setting gate posts, hanging the gate, and installing hinges, latches, and automated opening systems.
- Perform detailed finishing work, such as attaching post caps, trim, and decorative elements to enhance the final appearance of the fence.
- Identify and correct any defects in materials or installation to ensure the final product meets stringent quality control standards.
- Systematically dismantle and remove old or damaged fencing, preparing the site for the new installation while minimizing disruption to the property.
- Conduct on-site repairs and maintenance for existing fences, which includes replacing damaged posts, rails, pickets, or sections of fence.
- Read and interpret work orders and project specifications to understand the scope of work, materials needed, and client expectations for each job.
- Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Effectively manage project timelines by working efficiently and collaboratively with the crew to meet or exceed completion deadlines.
- Load and unload trucks with fencing materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring everything is secured for transport and organized at the job site.
- Communicate professionally with clients on-site to provide progress updates, answer questions, and ensure complete satisfaction with the work being performed.
- Prepare the ground for installation, which may involve clearing vegetation, grading small areas, and removing obstacles along the fence line.
- Mix concrete by hand or with a portable mixer, ensuring the correct consistency for setting posts in various soil and weather conditions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve unforeseen on-site challenges, such as underground utilities, difficult terrain, or property line discrepancies, in a logical and efficient manner.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times, including the proper cleanup and disposal of debris, scrap materials, and packaging.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment to ensure they remain in good working order.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Proficiency in operating power tools such as circular saws, drills, impact drivers, nail guns, and grinders.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret blueprints, surveys, and detailed work orders.
- Experience with various fencing systems, including wood, chain-link, vinyl, and aluminum.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, including tape measures, levels, post-hole diggers, and shovels.
- Knowledge of proper concrete mixing and pouring techniques for setting posts.
- Competency in operating heavy machinery like skid steers, mini-excavators, or augers.
- Basic carpentry skills for cutting, notching, and fitting wood fence components.
- Ability to perform basic welding and metal fabrication for custom gates or repairs (highly desirable).
- Understanding of tensioning techniques for chain-link and wire fencing.
