Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Install, terminate, and splice single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables according to project specifications.
  • Prepare and clean fiber strands, ensuring proper alignment for splicing and termination.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing using specialized tools and splicing equipment.
  • Conduct fiber optic testing using OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), power meters, and other diagnostic instruments to ensure optimal signal integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged or underperforming fiber optic cables, including identifying causes of signal loss or network disruptions.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and project blueprints for accurate fiber placement.
  • Document splicing and installation activities, maintaining detailed records of work performed, test results, and network topology updates.
  • Collaborate with network engineers to plan and execute fiber network deployments, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Handle cable routing, including aerial, underground, and duct installations, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Perform quality control checks on all spliced connections to meet industry and client specifications.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot splicing and testing equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Coordinate with field teams to schedule installations, repairs, and network outages minimizing client impact.
  • Install connectors, enclosures, and patch panels for both residential and commercial fiber optic networks.
  • Monitor and inspect existing networks for wear, damage, or environmental impact that could affect performance.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians or apprentices during splicing operations.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols when working at heights, in confined spaces, or near electrical equipment.
