Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct detailed geological and structural mapping of surface and underground environments to identify rock types, alteration, and mineralization patterns.
- Perform comprehensive logging of drill core (diamond) and cuttings (RC), meticulously documenting lithology, alteration, structure, and geotechnical data.
- Supervise and manage drilling contractors on-site, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols, project specifications, and proper sample collection procedures.
- Execute systematic soil, rock, and water sampling programs according to established best practices, ensuring sample integrity and maintaining a clear chain of custody.
- Utilize GIS software (such as ArcGIS or QGIS) to compile, manage, and interpret geological data, creating detailed maps and cross-sections to visualize subsurface conditions.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, daily logs, and project summaries that clearly communicate field observations, data analysis, and geological interpretations to project managers.
- Champion and enforce rigorous health and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, MSHA) during all field activities, conducting daily safety briefings and identifying potential hazards.
- Coordinate all logistical aspects of field programs, including equipment mobilization, site access permissions, and the management of supplies and consumables.
- Analyze and interpret geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to develop, refine, and test exploration targets or characterize environmental site conditions.
- Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including historical research, site reconnaissance, and subsurface soil and groundwater investigations.
- Supervise the installation, development, and sampling of groundwater monitoring wells and soil vapor probes in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Perform soil classification using standard systems (e.g., USCS, AASHTO) and describe rock core properties for geotechnical engineering and hazard assessment purposes.
- Contribute to the development and updating of 3D geological models using software like Leapfrog, Vulcan, or RockWorks to support resource estimation or site characterization.
- Perform rigorous QA/QC and data validation on all collected field data to ensure the highest level of accuracy and reliability for the project database.
- Assist in the planning and execution of ground-based geophysical surveys (e.g., magnetics, IP, GPR) and support the interpretation of the resulting data.
Secondary Functions
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior geologists and field technicians, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented team environment.
- Assist project managers with budget tracking and cost control for field-related activities, drilling programs, and laboratory analysis.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Geological Mapping & Core Logging: Demonstrated proficiency in identifying rock types, minerals, alteration, and structural features in various geological settings.
- Drilling & Sampling Methods: In-depth knowledge of different drilling techniques (RC, Diamond, Auger) and modern soil, rock, and water sampling protocols.
- GIS Software: Strong practical skills in using GIS platforms, primarily ArcGIS or QGIS, for data management, spatial analysis, and map production.
- 3D Geological Modeling Software: Experience with or exposure to 3D modeling packages such as Leapfrog, Vulcan, or Micromine is highly desirable.
