Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Set up, operate, and meticulously monitor professional audio recording equipment on film sets, including multi-channel mixers, digital recorders, and a diverse array of microphones.

- Execute precise dialogue editing, which includes cleaning up production audio tracks, removing unwanted noise, and seamlessly blending dialogue from various takes to create a smooth, coherent performance.
- Conduct and supervise Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) sessions, skillfully guiding actors to deliver performances that match the on-screen action and emotion perfectly.
- Design, source, and edit compelling sound effects (SFX) and ambiences to build a rich, believable, and emotionally resonant sonic environment that supports the narrative.
- Record, direct, and edit Foley sessions, working closely with Foley artists to create custom, synchronized sound effects for character movements, footsteps, and prop interactions.
- Mix all audio elements—including dialogue, music, ADR, Foley, and sound effects—to create a balanced, dynamic, and cohesive final soundtrack that meets creative and technical specifications.
- Perform rapid technical troubleshooting of all audio equipment in both field and studio environments to prevent and resolve issues that could impact the production schedule or audio quality.
- Manage and organize the project's extensive sound library and digital assets, ensuring a logical file structure and efficient workflow for the entire post-production sound team.
- Prepare and execute final mixes for various delivery formats, including theatrical 5.1/7.1 surround sound and immersive Dolby Atmos, adhering to strict loudness standards (e.g., LKFS).
- Evaluate potential filming locations for acoustic challenges, such as ambient noise from traffic, HVAC systems, or flight paths, and advise the production team on mitigation strategies.
- Provide clean, reliable audio playback on set as required for continuity checks, actor reference, or immediate director's review.
- Meticulously clean and maintain all sound department equipment, ensuring it is in perfect working order and prepared for the rigors of every shooting day.
- Work seamlessly within the post-production pipeline, conforming sound to new picture edits and integrating audio adjustments for updated visual effects.
- Implement advanced noise reduction and audio restoration techniques using specialized software like iZotope RX to salvage and repair problematic audio recordings.
