Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Provide active, on-set support to the Director, Director of Photography, and Assistant Director, anticipating needs and ensuring the smooth flow of operations.
- Assist in the setup, breakdown, and proper handling of camera, lighting, and sound equipment, ensuring all gear is accounted for and safely stored.
- Meticulously log and organize raw footage, creating detailed metadata, time-code notes, and descriptive labels to streamline the post-production workflow for editors.
- Perform administrative and logistical runs, such as picking up props, delivering hard drives, or securing supplies, which are critical to maintaining the production schedule.
- Help manage craft services and catering, ensuring the cast and crew are well-cared for to maintain high morale and energy levels on set.
- Assist the production management team with preparing and distributing essential documents like call sheets, production reports, and script sides.
- Conduct comprehensive research for various production needs, including potential filming locations, historical accuracy, stock footage, and music options.
- Support the casting process by helping to schedule auditions, manage actor check-ins, and serve as a reader for casting sessions.
- Manage and organize digital assets, including raw footage, audio files, graphics, and project files, using a clear and consistent folder structure.
- Assist the Art Department with sourcing, organizing, and placing props and set dressing to help realize the visual concept of the film.
- Operate a second or third camera for non-critical shots, interviews, or behind-the-scenes coverage under the guidance of the Director of Photography.
- Transcribe interviews, dialogue, and important conversations from raw footage, creating accurate text documents for the editing and story-producing teams.
- Handle and file essential paperwork, such as talent release forms, location agreements, and non-disclosure agreements, ensuring legal compliance.
- Facilitate clear communication between different departments on set, often acting as a runner to relay messages between the director, camera team, and production basecamp.
- Prepare footage for the editing process by syncing audio and video from multiple sources and organizing sequences on a timeline.
- Create basic rough cuts or assembly edits of scenes or segments to provide a starting point for the lead editor.
- Capture compelling behind-the-scenes photos and videos for use in promotional materials, social media, and electronic press kits (EPKs).
- Act as a stand-in for actors during lighting and camera blocking rehearsals, helping the crew to finalize their setups efficiently.
- Assist the Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) with offloading media from camera cards, creating backups, and ensuring data integrity.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of production supplies and equipment, reporting any shortages or malfunctions to the Production Manager.
- Contribute creative ideas during brainstorming sessions for story development, shot composition, and editing choices.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Video Editing Software: Proficiency in at least one major NLE (Non-Linear Editor) such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
- Camera Operation: Foundational knowledge of DSLR, mirrorless, or cinema camera functions, including exposure, focus, and white balance.
- Audio Recording: Basic understanding of audio equipment, including boom microphones, lavalier mics, and external audio recorders.
- Lighting Principles: Familiarity with basic lighting setups, such as three-point lighting, and the safe handling of lighting equipment.
- Media Management: Skill in organizing, backing up, and managing large quantities of digital files and footage.
