As a Financial Analyst Intern, you will be an integral member of our dynamic Finance team, contributing directly to the financial health and strategic direction of the company. This is not a "get coffee" internship; you will be immersed in real-world financial planning and analysis (FP&A), corporate finance, and business intelligence. You will work alongside seasoned analysts and leaders, transforming complex data sets into clear, actionable insights that drive critical business decisions. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Actively support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes by preparing detailed variance analysis comparing actual results to budget, forecast, and prior period performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex financial models for forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning to support strategic decision-making and scenario analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team to assist in the annual budgeting and rolling forecast cycles, including data gathering, consolidation, and validation from various business units.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and financial trends to identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost savings, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Prepare compelling presentations, reports, and data visualizations to effectively communicate financial results, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Provide analytical support for potential mergers & acquisitions (M&A), divestitures, and other strategic corporate development initiatives, including valuation modeling (DCF, precedent transactions, etc.) and due diligence.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Marketing, and Operations, to understand underlying business drivers and provide financial insights that support their objectives.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and automation within the finance function to increase the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting and analysis.
  • Execute a wide range of ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as requested by management to address pressing business questions and emergent strategic opportunities.
  • Assist in the maintenance and integrity of financial data within ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite) and Business Intelligence systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency for reporting.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research and competitor analysis to benchmark company performance and identify industry trends that could impact the company's financial outlook.
  • Support the treasury function by assisting with the development of short-term and long-term cash flow forecasting models and the analysis of working capital components.
  • Perform detailed return on investment (ROI) and net present value (NPV) analysis for proposed capital expenditures, new product launches, and other major investment decisions.
  • Develop, update, and automate interactive dashboards using tools like Power BI or Tableau to provide leadership with real-time visibility into financial performance and key metrics.
  • Contribute to the preparation of materials for investor relations activities, including quarterly earnings releases, conference call scripts, and investor presentations.
  • Assist with the reconciliation of financial data between various systems to ensure data integrity and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation for financial models, standard operating procedures, and reporting processes to ensure knowledge transfer and business continuity.
  • Conduct detailed profitability analysis at the product, customer, or business segment level to provide insights for pricing strategy and portfolio management.
  • Monitor and track departmental spending against approved budgets, providing regular updates and highlighting areas of significant variance to business leaders.
  • Provide essential support during internal and external audit processes by gathering necessary documentation and responding to inquiries about financial data and reporting.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis to uncover hidden trends.
  • Contribute to the organization's data governance initiatives by helping to define and document key financial metrics.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate their strategic questions into data and analysis requirements for the finance team.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies if working within an agile finance or data team structure.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel: Mastery of pivot tables, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, index-match, sum-ifs, and complex nested formulas. Experience with macros (VBA) is a plus.
  • Financial Modeling & Valuation: Strong theoretical and practical understanding of building 3-statement financial models, Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis, and other valuation methodologies.
  • Data Visualization/BI Tools: Hands-on experience with or a strong desire to learn tools like Tableau or Microsoft Power BI to create insightful dashboards.
  • PowerPoint Proficiency: Ability to create clean, concise, and compelling presentations to communicate complex financial information.
  • Database & SQL Knowledge: Basic understanding of relational databases and the ability to write SQL queries for data extraction and manipulation is highly desirable.
  • ERP System Familiarity: Exposure to enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP, Oracle NetSuite, or similar platforms is a strong asset.
  • Accounting Principles: Solid understanding of core accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and how they impact financial statements.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Must have completed at least two years of study.

Preferred Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a concentration in Finance, Accounting, or Economics. Rising seniors or first-year MBA/MSF students are strongly preferred.
