Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions

- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process-related press issues — diagnose causes for streaking, halos, misregistration, scumming, or varnish problems and implement corrective actions immediately.
- Operate ancillary converting equipment as needed (slitters, rewinders, laminators, die cutters, inline varnish/UV) to produce finished rolls or sheets ready for QC and shipment.
- Monitor and control ink viscosity, temperature, and recirculation systems; mix and thin inks according to specifications while following MSDS and safety protocols.
- Inspect printed output continuously through inline inspection systems and manual checks; identify defects, document nonconformances, and stop the press when necessary to correct issues to meet print standards.
- Maintain production documentation and job tickets, including run speeds, plate IDs, anilox numbers, press settings, defect logs, and waste reports to support traceability and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and light mechanical repairs on press components (gears, bearings, pumps, seals) to ensure optimal equipment uptime and extend service life.
- Collaborate with prepress, quality assurance, and production planning teams to review job specs, proof approvals, substrate characteristics, and tolerances prior to launch.
- Ensure compliance with safety, housekeeping, and environmental procedures — enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guards, spill containment, and proper disposal of solvents and waste.
- Train and mentor junior press operators and apprentices on best practices for setup, color management, changeovers, and safety protocols to build team capability.
- Optimize press run efficiency by implementing quick-change techniques, standard work instructions, and set-up reduction strategies to minimize downtime and waste.
- Verify substrate compatibility and inventory (films, papers, foils, adhesives) and report any material anomalies that could impact print quality or press performance.
- Coordinate with maintenance and engineering for major repairs, upgrades, or tooling modifications and execute minor adjustments to maintain run consistency.

- Follow and enforce quality systems and customer specifications including ISO, GMP, or other applicable regulatory and customer-driven standards during press operation.
- Communicate production status, quality issues, and schedule changes clearly to supervisors and downstream departments to align expectations and minimize delays.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in root-cause investigations for recurring print defects; contribute operator perspective to corrective action plans and implementation.
