Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Set up flexographic printing presses for production runs, including mounting anilox rolls, plates, doctor blades, and ensuring plates and sleeves are properly aligned and tensioned for accurate print registration.

Perform routine preventive maintenance and light mechanical repairs on press components (gears, bearings, pumps, seals) to ensure optimal equipment uptime and extend service life.
Collaborate with prepress, quality assurance, and production planning teams to review job specs, proof approvals, substrate characteristics, and tolerances prior to launch.
Ensure compliance with safety, housekeeping, and environmental procedures — enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guards, spill containment, and proper disposal of solvents and waste.
Train and mentor junior press operators and apprentices on best practices for setup, color management, changeovers, and safety protocols to build team capability.
Optimize press run efficiency by implementing quick-change techniques, standard work instructions, and set-up reduction strategies to minimize downtime and waste.
Verify substrate compatibility and inventory (films, papers, foils, adhesives) and report any material anomalies that could impact print quality or press performance.

Support continuous improvement projects such as waste reduction, throughput increases, yield improvement, and implementation of Industry 4.0 sensors or SPC data collection.

Communicate production status, quality issues, and schedule changes clearly to supervisors and downstream departments to align expectations and minimize delays.

Secondary Functions

Assist in root-cause investigations for recurring print defects; contribute operator perspective to corrective action plans and implementation.
Support inventory management by tracking tooling life (anilox roll wear, plate sleeve runs) and recommending replacements to purchasing or maintenance.
Participate in cross-functional continuous improvement teams focused on press performance, waste reduction, and process standardization.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Proficient in set-up, operation, and changeover of flexographic printing presses (web and/or sheetfed), including rotary and central impression presses.
Strong experience with color management tools and techniques: spectrophotometer use, density measurement, ICC profiles, and color correction workflows.
