Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Command, pilot, and expertly operate advanced, technologically-sophisticated aircraft on a wide range of combat, surveillance, or transport missions.
- Plan and execute complex air operations, including detailed pre-flight preparation, threat analysis, navigation, and fuel management for domestic and international sorties.
- Lead a flight element or crew, fostering teamwork and ensuring the effective and safe execution of all assigned mission tasks and objectives.
- Make authoritative, time-critical decisions during all phases of flight, particularly in high-stress, abnormal, or emergency situations to ensure crew safety and mission success.
- Maintain ultimate responsibility for the safety of the aircraft, crew, and any passengers or cargo, adhering strictly to established flight discipline and safety protocols.
- Operate and manage a suite of complex onboard systems, including advanced avionics, navigation, communication, sensor, and weapons systems.
- Conduct comprehensive post-flight debriefings to meticulously analyze mission performance, identify lessons learned, and contribute to the continuous improvement of tactics and procedures.
- Execute Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) duties as required, maintaining a state of high readiness to launch and intercept airborne threats to national airspace.
- Undergo a continuous and rigorous training regimen to maintain and advance proficiency in flying, tactical employment, and emergency handling of the aircraft.
- Lead and mentor junior officers and aircrew, providing guidance on career development, performance, and professional military conduct.
- Effectively employ Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles to optimize communication, teamwork, and decision-making within the cockpit and across the wider crew.
- Ensure all flight operations are conducted in strict compliance with the Rules of Engagement, international aviation law, and national military directives.
Secondary Functions
- Supervise and liaise with ground crew and maintenance personnel to ensure the aircraft is fully serviceable and correctly configured for its designated mission.
- Contribute to the strategic development of air power doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) based on operational experience.
- Assume secondary squadron duties, such as managing flight scheduling, training programs, safety protocols, or equipment inventories.
- Represent the Air Force and the nation during joint exercises with allied partners, fostering interoperability and international cooperation.
- Provide expert consultation on air power capabilities, limitations, and integration to senior commanders and staff officers.
- Participate in humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) operations, delivering critical supplies, medical evacuation, or reconnaissance support.
- Manage administrative responsibilities related to flight records, personnel reports, and operational documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
- Maintain peak physical and mental fitness to withstand the physiological and psychological stresses of high-performance military aviation.
