Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Inspect and prepare subfloors meticulously by cleaning, scraping, sanding, and filling cracks to ensure a smooth and stable foundation for installation.
Precisely measure installation areas and materials to determine layout and cut patterns, minimizing waste while ensuring a perfect fit.
Accurately cut and shape a diverse range of flooring materials, such as carpet, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), hardwood, laminate, and sheet vinyl, using power saws, cutters, and utility knives.
Skillfully install flooring materials according to manufacturer specifications, industry best practices, and project blueprints or layout diagrams.
Apply appropriate adhesives, tack strips, and underlayment to securely bond flooring materials to the subfloor.
Execute specialized carpet installation techniques, including power stretching to prevent wrinkles and seaming to create invisible joints.
Expertly install hard surface flooring, ensuring proper alignment, spacing for expansion, and secure fastening.
Mix and apply grout and sealants for tile installations, ensuring clean grout lines and a waterproof finish.
Install trim, molding, and transition pieces to provide a clean, finished look around the perimeter of rooms and between different flooring types.
Troubleshoot and resolve installation challenges on-site, such as uneven subfloors, complex room shapes, or material defects.
Conduct a final inspection of the completed work with the client or project manager to ensure total satisfaction and address any final adjustments.
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders to understand project scope, materials, and layout requirements.
Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, including knee kickers, power stretchers, miter saws, table saws, and floor sanders.
Adhere strictly to all job site safety protocols and OSHA regulations to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and the team.
Manage the removal and disposal of old flooring materials in an environmentally responsible and efficient manner.

Secondary Functions

Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, providing updates on project progress and answering questions about the installation process and material care.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the installation process and perform a thorough cleanup upon project completion.
Manage on-site inventory of materials, tools, and supplies, ensuring all necessary components are available to complete the job without delay.
Assist in the training and mentorship of apprentice installers or helpers, sharing knowledge and demonstrating proper techniques.
