Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Design and execute a wide variety of custom floral arrangements, including bouquets, centerpieces, sympathy tributes, and wearables like corsages and boutonnieres, according to established design standards and client specifications.
- Provide consultative customer service to walk-in, phone, and online clients, guiding them through flower selection, design options, and pricing to meet their needs and budget for daily orders and special events.
- Receive and process incoming shipments of fresh flowers and foliage, verifying quality, cutting stems, conditioning, and storing them in coolers at optimal temperatures to ensure maximum freshness and longevity.
- Meticulously maintain the health, quality, and appearance of all fresh flowers and live plants in the retail and storage areas, including watering, pruning, and monitoring for any signs of pests or disease.
- Manage the shop’s inventory of fresh floral product, plants, and hard goods (vases, ribbons, foam, tools), conducting regular counts and placing orders with suppliers to prevent shortages and minimize waste.
- Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system to accurately process customer orders, handle payments, manage delivery information, and maintain customer records.
- Prepare and professionally package floral arrangements for pickup and delivery, ensuring they are secure, hydrated, and presented beautifully to maintain quality from the shop to the final destination.
- Contribute to the visual merchandising of the retail space, creating and maintaining attractive displays of flowers, plants, and giftware to create an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere for customers.
- Assist with the on-site setup and breakdown of floral installations for weddings, corporate functions, and other large-scale events, ensuring flawless execution of the design plan.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by regularly cleaning work stations, tools, buckets, and coolers in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Calculate pricing for custom arrangements and retail products based on cost of goods, labor, and established pricing formulas to ensure profitability.
- Stay informed about current floral design trends, new flower varieties, and innovative techniques through industry publications, workshops, and networking.
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond to emails with a professional and friendly demeanor, providing information, taking detailed orders, and scheduling consultations.
- Collaborate with the design team to brainstorm and develop creative concepts for seasonal collections, holiday promotions, and marketing campaigns.
- Handle sensitive client interactions, particularly for sympathy and funeral arrangements, with a high degree of compassion, empathy, and professionalism.
Secondary Functions
- Prepare detailed proposals and quotes for wedding and event clients, clearly outlining design concepts, flower selections, and cost breakdowns.
- Assist in creating content for the company’s social media platforms by taking high-quality photos and videos of daily arrangements and event work.
