Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Lead and execute professionally guided fly fishing trips for individuals and groups on local rivers, lakes, and streams, ensuring a safe, educational, and memorable experience for anglers of all skill levels.
- Provide expert, patient instruction on all aspects of fly fishing, including casting mechanics, knot tying, line management, fly selection, and proper fish handling techniques.
- Safely operate and maneuver drift boats, rafts, and other watercraft in varying water conditions while expertly positioning clients for optimal fishing opportunities.
- Maintain an in-depth, current knowledge of local fisheries, including river hydrology, seasonal insect hatches (entomology), and fish behavior to consistently put clients on fish.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients from arrival to departure, building strong rapport and managing expectations to foster repeat business and positive reviews.
- Manage all on-the-water logistics, including transportation to and from put-in/take-out locations, rigging equipment, and preparing high-quality shore-side lunches and refreshments.
- Uphold the highest standards of safety by conducting pre-trip safety briefings, vigilantly monitoring weather and water conditions, and maintaining current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Promote and practice catch-and-release and other ethical angling principles, serving as a steward for the resource and educating clients on local conservation efforts.
- Drive retail sales within the fly shop by providing expert advice, outfitting clients with appropriate gear and apparel, and sharing valuable local fishing intelligence.
- Manage and process trip bookings, guide scheduling, and client payments using our reservation software system, ensuring accuracy and clear communication.
- Create and curate engaging content for social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook) by capturing high-quality photos and videos of client experiences and fishing action.
- Represent the company brand and values professionally at all times, whether on the water, in the shop, or within the local community.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip equipment checks, ensuring all rods, reels, lines, waders, and safety gear are clean, functional, and ready for use.
- Prepare detailed guide reports at the end of each trip, documenting catches, locations, effective flies, and any notable client feedback or incidents.
- Assist in the organization and execution of special events, casting clinics, and fly-tying classes to engage the community and attract new clients.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of the fly shop, including merchandising, restocking inventory, and managing displays.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the guide vehicle fleet and boat inventory to ensure they are safe, reliable, and presentable.
