Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform a wide range of complex chemical, physical, and instrumental analyses on raw ingredients, in-process materials, and finished food products to ensure they meet specifications.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot advanced analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS, AA, and UV-Vis Spectrophotometers.
- Develop, validate, and optimize new analytical methods for detecting and quantifying compounds such as nutrients, vitamins, preservatives, contaminants, and flavor profiles.
- Accurately document all experimental procedures, observations, and results in a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and physical lab notebooks in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) and out-of-trend (OOT) results, conducting thorough root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Prepare and analyze samples for shelf-life studies, stability testing, and competitor product benchmarking to support R&D and marketing initiatives.
- Ensure all laboratory activities are in strict compliance with food safety standards and regulations, including FDA, USDA, and GFSI schemes (SQF, BRC).
- Author and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), test methods, and technical reports to maintain an updated and compliant documentation system.
- Manage the inventory of laboratory chemicals, reagents, certified reference materials, and consumables, ensuring proper storage, handling, and disposal.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Quality Assurance, R&D, and Production, to resolve quality issues and support new product development.
- Conduct compositional analysis to verify nutritional labeling information, including fat, protein, carbohydrates, moisture, and ash content.
- Test for potential contaminants, including allergens, heavy metals, pesticides, and mycotoxins, to guarantee product safety and regulatory compliance.
- Prepare comprehensive Certificates of Analysis (CoA) for finished products and provide technical data to internal and external stakeholders.
