Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet all customers with a warm and friendly demeanor upon their arrival, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Accurately take customer food and beverage orders, providing detailed information on menu items, ingredients, and daily specials upon request.
  • Skillfully operate the Point of Sale (POS) system to enter orders, process cash and credit card payments, and issue receipts and change.
  • Prepare a variety of food items such as sandwiches, salads, soups, and beverages according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Ensure all orders are assembled correctly, neatly packaged for dine-in or takeout, and presented to the customer in a timely manner.
  • Proactively address and resolve customer inquiries and complaints with a positive, service-oriented attitude, escalating to management when necessary.
  • Consistently adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards (e.g., ServSafe, HACCP) to ensure a safe dining experience.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked front counter, beverage station, and condiment area throughout the shift.
  • Portion, wrap, and label food items accurately for display, grab-and-go service, or storage.
  • Actively listen to customer preferences and provide recommendations or upsell additional menu items and promotional offers.
  • Handle opening and closing procedures for the counter area, including cash drawer reconciliation, equipment startup/shutdown, and station setup/breakdown.
  • Monitor and maintain proper food holding temperatures for both hot and cold items to ensure quality and safety.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with kitchen staff and other team members to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Brew coffee, tea, and prepare other specialty beverages according to precise company recipes and standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels of food, paper goods, and supplies at the front counter, and notify management of any shortages.
  • Scrape, rinse, and load dishes and utensils into dishwashing machines, and restock clean items in their designated areas.
  • Prepare and assemble catering orders, ensuring accuracy, proper packaging, and readiness for pickup or delivery.
  • Continuously wipe down and sanitize tables, countertops, and other surfaces in the customer dining area.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, security, and emergency situations.
  • Assist in receiving and stocking deliveries, ensuring items are stored correctly and rotating stock using the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new team members by demonstrating tasks and explaining procedures.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss performance, promotions, and operational updates.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with weekly or monthly stock counts.
  • Contribute ideas for improving service, menu items, or operational efficiency.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • POS System Operation: Proficiency in using point-of-sale terminals for order entry and payment processing.
  • Cash Handling: Accuracy in managing a cash drawer, processing transactions, and providing correct change.
  • Basic Food Preparation: Knowledge of cutting, chopping, and assembling food items according to recipes.
  • Food Safety & Sanitation: Understanding of proper food handling, temperature controls, and cleaning procedures (ServSafe certification is a plus).
  • Order Accuracy: Ability to correctly input and review customer orders to minimize errors.
  • Basic Math Skills: Competence in performing quick calculations for payments and change.
  • Beverage Preparation: Experience with operating commercial coffee brewers, espresso machines, and soda fountains.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • No minimum educational requirement; High School Diploma or GED is often preferred.

Preferred Education:

  • Food Handler Permit or ServSafe Certification.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role.

Preferred: Previous experience in a quick-service restaurant (QSR), cafe, deli, or similar food service environment is highly advantageous. Experience as a cashier or barista is also a strong asset.
