Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform a variety of food preparation tasks as directed, including washing, chopping, and mixing vegetables and fruits, preparing salads, and assembling sandwiches.
- Set up and break down service stations, hot and cold food lines, and beverage areas, ensuring they are fully stocked, clean, and visually appealing before and after service periods.
- Accurately portion and serve a wide range of hot and cold food items to customers, adhering to portion control guidelines and presentation standards.
- Operate a Point-of-Sale (POS) system or cash register to accurately process customer transactions, including cash, credit card, and meal plan payments.
- Provide outstanding, friendly, and efficient customer service, greeting patrons warmly, answering questions about menu items, and addressing concerns professionally.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of daily menu offerings, including ingredients, potential allergens, and nutritional information to assist customers effectively.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including HACCP and local health department codes, to ensure a safe dining environment.
- Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans using commercial dishwashing equipment or a three-compartment sink, and ensure proper storage.
- Monitor and document food temperatures on the service line and in refrigerators/freezers to ensure they remain within safe and required ranges.
- Diligently clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, work surfaces, countertops, and dining room tables throughout the shift.
- Continuously restock service lines, beverage stations, condiment bars, and grabbing-and-go coolers to ensure items are always available for guests.
- Assist in receiving food and supply deliveries, verifying invoices, and storing items properly in designated storage areas using the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method.
- Assemble patient or customer meal trays with exceptional accuracy, ensuring all items match the order ticket and any specified dietary modifications.
- Brew fresh coffee and prepare other beverages, ensuring machines are clean and operational.
- Follow standardized recipes and production sheets to prepare simple food items, ensuring consistency in quality and taste.
- Label, date, and rotate all food products in storage and on the line to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
- Sweep and mop floors in the kitchen, serving, and dining areas, and dispose of all trash, compost, and recycling in the appropriate receptacles.
- Communicate effectively with cooks, supervisors, and fellow team members regarding inventory levels, equipment issues, or customer feedback.
- Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of catering orders and special events, both on and off-site.
- Handle customer complaints with patience and professionalism, seeking to resolve the issue or escalating to a supervisor when necessary.
