Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely operate and maneuver a large food truck to and from various scheduled locations, including daily service spots, private events, and community festivals.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, meticulously checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and equipment to ensure road safety and operational readiness.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for our customers, providing a warm, friendly, and efficient service experience that builds brand loyalty.
  • Accurately process customer orders and payments using a Point of Sale (POS) system, handling cash and credit card transactions with precision and integrity.
  • Perform final food preparation, assembly, and plating tasks, ensuring every dish meets our strict standards for quality, presentation, and consistency.
  • Maintain an impeccably clean and organized food truck environment, including the service window, kitchen area, and exterior, adhering to all health department and food safety regulations.
  • Monitor and manage on-board inventory levels throughout the shift, communicating restocking needs to the commissary kitchen to avoid menu item shortages.
  • Strictly adhere to all traffic laws, safety procedures, and transportation regulations to ensure a safe environment for the team, the public, and company assets.
  • Execute all opening and closing procedures for the truck, including starting/stopping the generator, setting up/breaking down equipment, and securing the vehicle.
  • Serve as a passionate brand ambassador, enthusiastically promoting our menu, daily specials, and brand story to customers and potential clients.
  • Manage customer flow and wait times effectively, especially during peak hours, to maintain a smooth, positive, and high-turnover service experience.
  • Professionally address and resolve customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints with courtesy and a problem-solving attitude to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate closely with kitchen staff and management, providing real-time feedback on sales, customer preferences, and operational challenges.

Secondary Functions

  • Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and documentation (e.g., business license, health permit, vehicle registration) are present and correctly displayed in the vehicle.
  • Handle the proper disposal of all waste, including trash, recycling, grease, and greywater, according to established procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Perform routine cleaning and light preventative maintenance on food truck equipment to ensure it remains in excellent working order and to minimize downtime.
  • Keep accurate and detailed daily records, including sales reports, mileage logs, fuel consumption, and temperature logs for food safety compliance.
  • Assist in loading and unloading food, beverages, and supplies from the central commissary, ensuring items are organized and secured for transport.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, enhance the customer experience, and increase daily sales.
  • Manage the truck's onboard utility systems, including operating the generator, monitoring propane levels, and managing fresh and wastewater tanks.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid state-issued Driver's License with a clean and safe driving record.
  • Proven experience operating large commercial vehicles, box trucks, or similar-sized vehicles, with a strong ability to park in tight spaces.
  • Proficiency in using Point of Sale (POS) systems for order entry and payment processing.
  • Current ServSafe Certification or equivalent local Food Handler's permit.
  • Strong cash handling and basic mathematical skills for managing transactions and daily reconciliation.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor issues with the truck or kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of local and state health codes and safety regulations for mobile food vendors.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of experience working in a food truck, quick-service restaurant (QSR), or catering environment.
  • 1+ years of professional driving experience with commercial-sized vehicles.
  • Verifiable experience in a customer-facing role with direct responsibility for cash handling.
