Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Drive the entire design lifecycle, from initial concept ideation and sketching through to commercialization, ensuring a cohesive and compelling final product.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research and trend analysis to identify emerging styles, consumer needs, and new opportunities within the footwear landscape.
  • Create and present seasonal mood boards, design narratives, and product stories to communicate a clear and persuasive creative vision to cross-functional teams.
  • Develop highly detailed and accurate technical specification packages (tech packs) for factory partners, including 2D/3D drawings, material maps, and construction details.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Line Managers and Merchandisers to ensure designs are aligned with brand strategy, seasonal direction, and commercial objectives.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Development team to guarantee the seamless execution of design intent, focusing on fit, form, function, and quality.
  • Lead the selection and specification of innovative materials, colors, and finishes, building a curated seasonal palette that enhances the product story.
  • Meticulously review and provide constructive, detailed feedback on all stages of prototypes, from initial pullovers to final confirmation samples.
  • Travel internationally to partner factories and suppliers for development trips, product finalization, and to ensure quality control standards are met.
  • Utilize advanced 2D and 3D design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, Blender, etc.) to visualize, render, and refine footwear concepts digitally.
  • Maintain and apply a deep, up-to-date knowledge of footwear construction techniques, manufacturing processes, and the properties of various materials.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and collaboration, actively contributing new ideas and pushing the design team to explore new territories.
  • Integrate sustainable materials and environmentally conscious manufacturing practices into the design and development process whenever possible.
  • Analyze consumer feedback and sales data in partnership with the product team to inform and validate future design directions and innovations.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, adhering to a seasonal product creation calendar and meeting all key deadlines and development milestones.
  • Ensure all designs are created within established cost targets and margin goals without compromising the integrity of the design or brand standards.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers and interns, helping to develop their skills and foster their growth within the team.
  • Stay consistently informed about competitor products, brand positioning, emerging technologies, and cultural trends that influence the footwear industry.
  • Create compelling and dynamic presentations to articulate design concepts, product features, and benefits to internal stakeholders, sales teams, and key accounts.
  • Champion the consumer, ensuring all design decisions are made with a deep understanding of their lifestyle, needs, and aspirations.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the marketing and content teams by providing design insights and assets for product storytelling and launch campaigns.
  • Contribute creative ideas for visual merchandising, retail displays, and trade show booth concepts to ensure a cohesive brand presentation.
  • Participate in cross-functional innovation workshops and brainstorming sessions to fuel long-term product and technology roadmaps.
  • Build and maintain an organized digital and physical library of materials, components, and inspirational design resources.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D design and rendering software (e.g., Rhino, Modo, Blender, Gravity Sketch, KeyShot).
  • Expertise in creating detailed technical packages (Tech Packs) for overseas manufacturing.
  • Advanced hand-sketching, illustration, and visual communication abilities.
  • Deep knowledge of footwear construction, lasts, and modern manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, applications, and sustainable alternatives.
  • Excellent grasp of color theory and the ability to build compelling seasonal color palettes.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
  • Ability to conduct thorough trend forecasting and market analysis.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience.
