Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Assist senior operators with the setup, calibration, and routine operation of specialized footwear manufacturing machinery, including cutting presses, stitching machines, and sole cementing equipment.
Load and feed raw materials such as leather, textiles, synthetics, and rubber compounds into production machines, ensuring proper alignment and tension.
Operate lasting machines to precisely shape the shoe upper over the last, ensuring the correct form, fit, and adherence to design specifications.
Perform consistent in-process quality checks on components and partially assembled footwear to identify defects, blemishes, or deviations from quality standards.
Apply primers, adhesives, and cements to various shoe components in a controlled and clean manner in preparation for sole attachment and other bonding processes.
Monitor machine performance and output during production runs, listening for unusual noises and watching for inconsistencies, making minor adjustments as authorized.
Carefully trim excess materials, such as flash, thread, and adhesive, from finished footwear using specialized hand tools to achieve a clean, marketable product.
Sort, bundle, and organize cut parts, uppers, and soles according to production orders, ensuring the correct components are supplied to the next stage of assembly.
Follow detailed work instructions, technical specification sheets, and visual guides to ensure every step of the assembly process is performed accurately.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation, adhering to 5S principles and all company safety protocols to prevent accidents and improve efficiency.
Prepare and attach outsoles and midsoles to the lasted uppers using heat or pressure-activated presses, ensuring a strong and durable bond.
Operate buffing and roughing machines to prepare surfaces of shoe components for adhesion, creating the ideal texture for a secure bond.
Assist in the final finishing and cleaning processes, including lacing, polishing, and packaging the completed footwear for shipment.

Secondary Functions

Support preventative maintenance tasks on machinery, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing simple, non-critical parts under supervision.
Accurately record production data, including units produced, scrap rates, and machine downtime, in manual logs or a digital manufacturing execution system (MES).
Transport materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods between workstations and departments using hand carts or pallet jacks.
Participate actively in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing production efficiency, safety, and product quality.
Collaborate with the Quality Control team to understand defect patterns and assist in implementing corrective actions at the workstation level.
Manage the inventory of small components, threads, glues, and other consumables at the workstation, notifying the team lead or supervisor of low stock levels.
Cross-train on different machines and in various assembly line positions to provide flexible support and cover for team member absences.

Required Skills & Competencies
