Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Deliver a world-class customer service experience by greeting and engaging every customer with a positive and knowledgeable approach.
  • Utilize specialized fitting techniques and tools, such as a Brannock device and digital foot scanners, to ensure customers receive an accurate and comfortable fit.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, developing and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of all footwear products, including brands, materials, construction, and intended use.
  • Actively listen to customer needs, preferences, and intended activities to provide personalized footwear recommendations that solve their specific problems.
  • Drive sales by effectively communicating product features and benefits, and by confidently up-selling and cross-selling complementary items like socks, insoles, and care products.
  • Manage the end-to-end sales process, from initial customer interaction to processing transactions accurately and efficiently on the Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Proactively manage customer issues and concerns, demonstrating empathy and problem-solving skills to reach a satisfactory resolution and maintain customer loyalty.
  • Build a personal client base by fostering long-term relationships with customers, encouraging repeat business and positive word-of-mouth referrals.
  • Actively promote store loyalty programs, special events, and promotions to drive customer engagement and increase sales opportunities.
  • Continuously seek to improve personal performance by staying informed about industry trends, competitor offerings, and advancements in footwear technology.
  • Communicate product performance and customer feedback to the department lead or store management to help inform future buying and merchandising decisions.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain the visual presentation of the footwear department according to company standards, including organizing displays, ensuring proper signage, and creating an inviting shopping environment.
  • Execute daily stock replenishment from the backroom to the sales floor to ensure a full range of sizes and styles is always available for customers.
  • Assist in receiving, unpacking, and processing new merchandise shipments, ensuring accuracy and preparing items for the sales floor.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with cycle counts, price changes, and maintaining accurate stock levels within the department.
  • Ensure the fitting areas, including benches and mirrors, are kept clean, organized, and accessible for customer use.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members across different departments to provide a seamless and comprehensive shopping experience for the customer.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, with a strong focus on loss prevention and safety protocols to protect company assets and ensure a secure environment.
  • Handle special orders, online order fulfillments, and customer returns with accuracy and a high level of customer service.
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining promotional displays and endcaps to highlight key products and drive seasonal sales.
  • Take initiative to perform general housekeeping duties within the department to ensure a clean, safe, and professional appearance at all times.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Proficiency in operating retail POS systems for transactions, returns, and inventory lookups.
  • Footwear Fitting Expertise: Skilled in using measurement tools (e.g., Brannock device) and techniques to determine correct sizing and fit.
  • Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of footwear brands, materials, construction, and technology (e.g., Gore-Tex, EVA, Vibram).
    -Inventory Control: Experience with inventory management practices, including cycle counts and stock replenishment.
  • Visual Merchandising: Ability to create and maintain visually appealing product displays that align with brand standards.
  • Cash Handling: Accuracy and integrity in managing cash transactions and balancing a till.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Business or Marketing
  • Kinesiology or Exercise Science
  • Fashion Merchandising

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role (e.g., retail, hospitality).

Preferred: 1+ years of direct experience in footwear sales or a commission-based sales environment is highly desirable. A personal passion for and knowledge of footwear (e.g., running, hiking, fashion) is a significant plus.
