Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct in-depth forensic investigations into allegations of fraud, corruption, embezzlement, and other financial misconduct by analyzing and interpreting complex financial records.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis, including funds tracing, asset identification, and income/revenue reconstruction to support litigation and investigative matters.
  • Quantify economic damages and lost profits in commercial disputes, breach of contract cases, business interruptions, and insurance claims.
  • Prepare comprehensive and meticulously documented forensic accounting reports, expert witness reports, and affidavits that clearly articulate findings and are defensible under legal scrutiny.
  • Assist legal counsel with discovery processes, including drafting information requests, reviewing and analyzing documents produced by opposing parties, and identifying key financial evidence.
  • Conduct and participate in interviews with relevant parties, including whistleblowers, subjects of investigation, and witnesses, to gather crucial information and evidence.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in depositions, hearings, arbitrations, and court trials, effectively explaining complex financial concepts to non-accountants.
  • Analyze and deconstruct complex transactions, financial statements, and business structures to identify indicators of fraudulent activity or financial misrepresentation.
  • Manage and execute engagements from inception to completion, including developing project plans, managing budgets, and supervising junior staff members.
  • Utilize advanced data analytics and computer-forensic techniques to extract, mine, and analyze large volumes of electronic data for evidence.
  • Evaluate the strength of internal control environments and provide recommendations for enhancing fraud prevention and detection mechanisms.
  • Perform forensic due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic investments to identify potential risks of fraud, corruption, or non-compliance.
  • Reconstruct incomplete or manipulated accounting records to create an accurate financial picture for a specific period or transaction.
  • Assist in bankruptcy, insolvency, and reorganization proceedings by investigating financial affairs, identifying preferential payments, and tracing hidden assets.
  • Provide neutral accounting services in shareholder disputes and post-acquisition disputes to determine earn-out calculations or working capital adjustments.
  • Liaise directly with clients, legal teams, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement agencies to manage case strategy and communicate progress.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on fraud awareness, risk management, and forensic accounting topics to clients and internal teams.
  • Stay abreast of current fraud schemes, industry trends, and changes in legislation and professional standards related to forensic accounting and litigation support.
  • Perform business valuations for purposes of marital dissolution, shareholder disputes, or other litigation-related matters.
  • Lead evidence gathering and chain of custody procedures to ensure the integrity of all financial documentation and electronic data collected during an investigation.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Professional Certifications: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is highly preferred. CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CFF (Certified in Financial Forensics), or ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) are significant assets.
  • Forensic Accounting Principles: Deep understanding of forensic investigation techniques, evidence handling, and litigation support procedures.
  • Data Analytics & Mining: Proficiency in using data analysis software such as IDEA, ACL, Alteryx, or applying SQL and Python for data extraction and analysis.
  • Advanced Excel: Expert-level skills in Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, data modeling, and Power Query for financial analysis.
  • GAAP & IFRS: Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and/or International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Financial Modeling: Ability to build and interpret complex financial models for damage calculations, business valuations, and cash flow analysis.
  • E-Discovery Tools: Familiarity with e-discovery platforms like Relativity or Nuix for managing and reviewing electronic evidence.
  • Accounting Software: Experience with various accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) to navigate and extract data.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

  • Direct involvement in fraud investigations, dispute resolutions, or commercial litigation cases.
