Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging and dynamic French language curriculum for various proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced, ensuring alignment with institutional standards and student learning outcomes.
  • Foster an immersive classroom environment that maximizes language use and encourages active participation through communicative and task-based instructional strategies.
  • Plan and prepare comprehensive lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom activities that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Utilize a wide range of instructional technologies and digital learning platforms (e.g., LMS, interactive whiteboards, language apps) to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through a variety of methods, including formal examinations, quizzes, projects, oral presentations, and portfolio assessments.
  • Provide timely, constructive, and detailed feedback on student assignments and performance to guide their learning and development.
  • Conduct classes entirely in French, or with appropriate scaffolding for lower levels, to promote authentic language acquisition.
  • Integrate aspects of Francophone culture, history, art, and current events into the curriculum to provide a rich, contextualized learning experience.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and academic performance in the institution's management system.
  • Hold regular office hours to provide one-on-one academic support, tutoring, and mentorship to students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning challenges, and academic goals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and department heads on curriculum development, program evaluation, and student placement testing.
  • Stay current with best practices, new methodologies, and emerging technologies in second language acquisition and pedagogy.
  • Prepare students for standardized language proficiency exams such as the DELF/DALF, TEF, or AP French Language and Culture exam.
  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively to ensure a respectful, positive, and productive learning environment for all students.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and institutional committees as required.
  • Develop and lead conversation groups, language labs, or supplemental instruction sessions to provide students with additional practice opportunities.
  • Organize and chaperone cultural field trips or immersion events to expose students to authentic Francophone experiences.
  • Communicate proactively with students and, when applicable, parents regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and retention of students in the French program by participating in open houses and informational sessions.

Secondary Functions

  • Organize and lead extracurricular cultural events, such as film screenings, conversation clubs, and holiday celebrations, to promote Francophone culture on campus or within the organization.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic pathways, study abroad opportunities, and career options related to French language skills.
  • Assist in the development of promotional materials and online content for the French language program.
  • Network with local and international Francophone organizations to create partnership and immersion opportunities for students.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Native or near-native fluency in both written and spoken French (CEFR C2 level).
  • Advanced proficiency in English for communication with colleagues and administration.
  • Expertise in curriculum and syllabus design for various language proficiency levels.
  • Deep knowledge of French grammar, phonetics, and linguistics.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, or Google Classroom.
  • Experience with language instruction technologies and digital tools (e.g., Quizlet, Duolingo for Schools, Kahoot!).
  • Knowledge of language assessment frameworks and tools (e.g., ACTFL, CEFR, DELF/DALF).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in French, Education, or a closely related field.
