Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex models to forecast fuel price, consumption, and overall expenditure with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of global, national, and regional fuel market trends, including crude oil prices, refining margins, and geopolitical factors, to inform procurement strategies.
  • Monitor, track, and audit all fuel-related invoices and transactions, ensuring pricing accuracy against contractual agreements and identifying discrepancies for recovery.
  • Manage the end-to-end fuel procurement process, including supporting RFPs/tenders, evaluating supplier bids, and providing analytical support for contract negotiations.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on fuel performance, cost variance analysis, and market outlooks to key stakeholders and senior management.
  • Collaborate directly with operations, finance, and logistics teams to implement and track fuel efficiency initiatives and conservation programs.
  • Analyze the performance of fuel hedging strategies and financial instruments, providing recommendations to mitigate price volatility and financial risk.
  • Identify, investigate, and quantify opportunities for significant cost savings and operational improvements within the fuel supply chain.
  • Develop and manage sophisticated dashboards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) using tools like Tableau or Power BI to provide real-time visibility into fuel metrics.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis, comparing actual fuel costs against budget, forecast, and prior periods to explain key business drivers.
  • Manage and cultivate strong working relationships with fuel suppliers, vendors, and third-party data providers to ensure optimal service and information flow.
  • Reconcile physical fuel inventory levels with consumption data from various systems to ensure data integrity and identify potential losses or inefficiencies.
  • Provide critical analytical support for annual budgeting, long-range strategic planning, and ad-hoc projects related to energy management.
  • Assess and report on compliance with environmental regulations, including emissions tracking and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) initiatives.
  • Evaluate the economic viability and operational impact of alternative fuels and new energy technologies.
  • Utilize SQL and other data querying languages to extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets from multiple internal and external sources.
  • Model the financial impact of various fuel purchasing scenarios to support strategic decision-making.
  • Document all analytical processes, models, and methodologies to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting the fuel and energy landscape.
  • Perform root cause analysis on fuel-related operational issues and recommend data-driven corrective actions.
  • Support the integration of fuel data into broader enterprise resource planning (ERP) and data warehouse systems.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel: Mastery of complex formulas, pivot tables, macros, and financial modeling is essential.
  • Data Visualization: Proficiency with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Qlik for creating insightful dashboards and reports.
  • Database Querying: Strong command of SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis from relational databases.
  • Statistical Analysis: Experience with statistical methods and familiarity with languages such as Python (Pandas, NumPy) or R is highly desirable.
  • ERP Systems: Hands-on experience with enterprise systems like SAP, Oracle, or other specialized fuel management software.
  • Market Data Platforms: Familiarity with energy information services such as Platts, Argus, or OPIS.
