Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately pick customer orders from designated warehouse locations using a handheld RF scanner, following system-generated pick paths to maximize efficiency and speed.
- Carefully and efficiently pack orders for shipment, selecting the appropriate-sized boxes, envelopes, and protective materials to ensure products arrive at their destination undamaged.
- Verify order accuracy by meticulously cross-referencing picked items with digital or printed packing slips, ensuring quantities, SKUs, and product descriptions are correct before sealing packages.
- Operate manual and powered material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and carts, to move products, supplies, and completed orders throughout the fulfillment center safely.
- Meet or exceed established productivity and quality standards for picking, packing, and shipping, consistently contributing to team and facility performance goals.
- Generate and affix shipping labels, packing slips, and any other required documentation to packages, ensuring they are legible and correctly placed for carrier scanning.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to all safety protocols, company policies, and 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) principles.
- Stage and sort completed packages by carrier (e.g., UPS, FedEx, USPS), destination, and service level to ensure a smooth and timely handover for daily pickups.
- Perform visual quality control checks on products and packaging during the fulfillment process, identifying and reporting any defects, damage, or inconsistencies to a supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with team members across different functional areas (picking, packing, shipping) to resolve order issues and maintain a continuous, efficient workflow.
- Monitor and replenish packing station supplies, including boxes, tape, dunnage, and labels, to prevent workflow interruptions.
- Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and regulations, including proper lifting techniques and safe operation of equipment, to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Utilize Warehouse Management System (WMS) software on handheld scanners or stationary terminals to perform tasks, track progress, and look up order information.
- Adapt to varying tasks and workloads as directed by supervisors, demonstrating flexibility to move between picking, packing, and other departments based on daily business needs.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in conducting periodic physical inventory and cycle counts to ensure system-wide inventory accuracy and help investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Support the receiving and put-away teams by helping to unload inbound shipments, scan items into inventory, and stock products in their designated warehouse locations.
- Participate actively in team meetings and training sessions to discuss performance metrics, safety topics, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Assist in training new team members by demonstrating proper techniques for picking, packing, and using equipment according to established best practices.
- Help process customer returns by inspecting returned items, documenting their condition, and returning them to inventory or designated disposition areas.
- Perform minor housekeeping duties within the work area, such as sweeping floors, breaking down empty cardboard boxes, and disposing of trash to maintain a tidy workspace.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately to a team lead or supervisor to ensure prompt resolution.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- RF Scanner Operation: Proficiency in using handheld radio-frequency scanners for picking, sorting, and inventory tasks.
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS): Basic experience or ability to quickly learn WMS software for order processing.
- Order Picking & Packing: Knowledge of different picking methodologies (e.g., piece pick, batch pick) and packing techniques to ensure product safety.
- Basic Computer Literacy: Ability to interact with a computer to print labels, look up order details, and complete training.
- Material Handling Equipment (MHE): Experience operating manual pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other non-powered warehouse equipment.
